Mido chants to be investigated by the FA

Joke tbh. There was no racism in it at all, it wasn't sung in a malicious manner, was just a bit of banter. Don't know how they can justify arresting 2 people when there were at least 500 singing it.

I wondered how they could arrest 2 people when there were considerably more than that singing the bomb thing around me.  Also, with Mido being at the other end of the pitch, would he have heard it.

However, I did see some mention of some "racist behaviour" when he was warming up - maybe something was said then for which the 2 were arrested.

I hope they manage to arrest the rest of the tossers.

People should really just drop this stupid chant. There are a lot of nutters out there who are looking for any excuse to do something stupid in the name of their religion. I hope this just goes away now.

Do you also think they should arrest Ashley for his comments in the national press?

"Genuinely, genuinely, I am not looking for Newcastle shareholders in a cave in Afghanistan," he said. "Good morning Bin, how are you in your cave in Afghanistan? Would you like to come and sit next to me at the Toon army? Clearly not. Is that a rucksack you've got with you? Oh good."

Maybe those supporters were just taking cues from the club's owner.

Yes, offending Osama Bin Laden is much the same as offending Mido, after all.

No, he was insulting the Bin Laden family - THERE ALL TERRISTS LOL

Which I agree isn't the same as taking the piss out of someone because they look like someone infamous.

He needs to grow up or bugger off. Typical example of the modern PC obsessed idiot. The transition of football grounds into libraries takes another step closer.

Does he look like Richard Reid ? The paedo chant is far more offensive, but they have to be above stuff like this. What a soft shite.

how can you dislike somebody you've never met ?

The comment is because he is supposedly close to my age. I don't know anybody my age that supported the club when they were younger, who wouldn't see this as terrace banter. Thats all it is. I don't want to turn this into another ruined thread but I hope you slate ozzie when he jumps in making quite ridiculous comments like he did in the thread which is now locked.

I agree that it is terrace banter, and I'm all for it myself. Problem is though that these days this type of banter feeds those who are actually racist.

Agree with you though about the PC brigade going OTT

edit: the obvious disadvantage is that the media scrutiny of such things will actually harm the club, which I think Ozzie is on about

You would of thought people would have worked it out after last year that this football banter towards Mido may be classed as over the mark by some. No sympathy whatsoever with anyone who gets arrested because of this palaver.

Agreed, it's hard to have sympathy for anyone if they started singing it again after all of the fuss last season.

Indeed. They have to be fucking morons to chant this shite again after the fuss it caused last time. Even if they genuinely think they're chanting about Richard Reid (which sounds to me like a particularly lame excuse and presumably does to neutrals listening in too) they should have realised by now that this is not how people understand it. Yes, it's banter, but it's the banter of bigots. I don't care what happens to these knackers.

As you're both nowhere near my age, I feel I should probably not reply to you anymore.  Read my posts in 20 years time, then they'll have caught up. :)

That mido has a bomb song was hilarious imo.

That's a fine opinion you have there sire. Cretinous and downright pathetic, but still. Racists ARE people afterall

Don't be such a humourless pathetic Guardian reader.

Theres too many on the sodding board as is.

Mountain out of a molehill.

Worse heard daily elsewhere.

I've got to say that I think this is all a load of bollocks, this country has gone mad if you can get arrested for hurting somebodies feelings.  If this is classed as racism then the law is an ass.

Fans have picked on players for many years, if a player stood out then he was picked on to try and put him off his game.

If Mido can't take stick from the fans then he should have tried another sport.

What is it then? I thought is was something to do with there version of jesus marrying a 6 year old. orsomething like that.

I think you are fuking weird.

Are you kidding me? Thats legit you ignorant cunt.

What else is the paedophile refernce to?

Ahem

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_child_abuse_scandal

Fuck me, that is embarressing. My bad. I genuinely had no idea about that, whats that got to do with Mido?

Its to do with Boro you dumb shit.

Why Mido in particular? I got the impression from the write ups last year that it was part and parcel of the Islamaphobia aimed towards Mido, happy to admit im wrong.

TT doesnt change the fact that your a cunt though.

Becuase his name rhymes with paedo?

Stewart Downing, as a Boro lad, got it loudest when he came over to take a corner (and seemed to take it in jest going by the smirk on his face). The "Islamophobia" and the paedo stuff are totally mutually exclusive.

My bad, i didnt realise. Hence why i asked in the first place, not actually heard this. Obvious now you say it.

Tool.

Go do what you do best and touch up some children you dirty perv.

Shit craic.

Bet you love shitty cracks eh?

I did until i saw your mums, luckliy 'Nurse Ratchett' was on hand to clean it for her.

(mother jokes (bad ones) how original) Hey, not my fault you've never been to a toon game or even visited the North East you plastic sad sack of shit.

no doubt about it, the abusive posts are best  bluelaugh.gif

If that Mumbai stuff is correct, then those people ought to be ashamed of themselves though.

Just undermined your own argument there.

No I haven't.

Singing about Mido looking like Richard Reid is entirely different to singing about him being in Mubai due to his religion.

And yet you just made the racist connection Muslim = terrorist.

Outed yourself, basically.

And the song says nowt about Richard Reid.

Can't believe the thickos who were singing it even know what Reid looks like, tbh.

Outed myself???

As what?

Racist?  No that would be wrong as being a Muslim isn't a race.

Of course I made the link, I'm an intelligent 32 year old NUFC supporter, it wasn't difficult - Mubai, Muslim terrorists, Mido is a Muslim.

That's wrong, as I've already stated.

Maybe in the future - just so you and the rest of the 'hang NUFC' southern press can be sure - they should sing:

Miiiidoo, he looks like Richard Reid you know.

I love the assumption that all of those peope singing the song were thick.

Maybe you have outed yourself??

certainly looks like it

I just can't bellieve that no-one picked up on our past racist bile hurled at Jimmy Floyd, after all 'Just a fat Eddie Murphy' was obviously thrown his way because he is black and so is Eddie Murphy.

On a more serious note, regardless of the nature of the chanting it is close to the bone for a lot of people and its no surprise that some quarters have lumped it as being racist, I'd wager that (giving the benefit of doubt to the songs creator) the original target was his likeness to RR, but a number of fans were chanting it thinking that it was aimed at him being an 'arab' (that seems to be the term banded about by borderline racists for anyone not from Britain these days).

Unfortunately we can't do anything about these individuals unless you can identify them all indivudally. Until then maybe the song should be shelved for the greater good?

After the fuss made last year I'd be amazed if anyone was unaware that it get dredged up again if the bomb chants were repeated. That's why I don't accept it was innocent banter, at best it was downright stupid everything considered, which is why I don't see the need to bend over backwards defending such daft actions.

Have a long hard look at the people who caused the 'fuss'.

Wwheeessss keeeeeyyyyyssss Louise from the guardian?

Correct both times.

Certain people with agendas as well as the usually 'outraged about something, life isn't fair' smoggies.

Nothing happened then, nothing will happen now, because people know that it is a storm in a teacup. Even Southgate has said as much.

Even if that's the case, the fact is it has been reported broadly by the press and not just one agenda driven journalist. Wether anything comes of it or not, it hardly reflects well on us as a club to be associated with this stuff two seasons running. That's the reason I can't understand all this defensive excuse making for a few plebs who should know better.

Give over Tron. In a few days it'll become yesterdays news. Give in to them and you're giving in to the plebs like Taylor and the PC brainwashed morons.

Its terrace chanting and its designed to piss them off, its always happened and always will. The smoggies used to sing at Mick Quinn "you're just a fat Geordie Bastard", even though he's a scouser. Was he bothered ? Don't be daft.

Can't believe some of the bollox in this thread.

Look, it wasn't a racist chant last year, and it wasn't one this.

Just because 'some' jumped up and down about it last year doesn't make it wrong to sing it (fleetingly) this.

Clever is isn't, original is isn't, funny it isn't, racist it isn't.

I'm not really sure about this whole thing. It obviously started due to resemblance to Richard Reid. I think a few spurs fans on here have confirmed they heard it long before we chanted it. But I'm not sure the majority of our fans would know who Richard Reid is, so it would be tough to argue that point.

However, if we were all racist twats we would be also signing 'Zaki, he's a got a bomb, you know' and would have sung 'Domi, he's a got a bomb, you know'. So I'm not sure the whole 'Islamaphobic' thing sticks either. I'm not even sure the majority of our supporters would even think that hard about a chant. Most likely explanation is that someone who knew about the Reid resemblance started the chant and then it caught on as Mido is the sort of twat people like to hate.

I'm more than a little pissed off that Mido is crying about this. He more than likely never even heard the chanting but thought he would make a fuss about it when someone mentioned it to him. I find it embarrassing that he even thinks he can stand up for his religion in this manner. It's common knowledge that he was a party boy twat while at Ajax and that his religion meant very little to him. Still, since he's shit and everyone in Egypt is bored with him, it probably makes him look good to moan about being persecuted and play the martyr.

Political correctness gone mad and the FA being fucking girls has led to a situation where arrests are being made for pretty much nothing. It will be interesting to see if any convictions stick, as it would set a dangerous precedent. What next, arrests for chanting that Posh takes it up the arse?

haha, hasn't that been chanted before too ?

I can't understand why anybody would want to defend the chanting or those who chanted it.

It was offensive, not only to Mido but others; it was short-lived, lasted about 30/45 seconds and that's because it had nothing to recommend it. Not funny at all.

EUFA, the FA, the Police, the media, NUFC (vide the statement) and me. And those above too, possibly. Even this is not an exhaustive list.
