Colin Calderwood set to leave Newcastle United

May 5 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United coach Colin Calderwood is expected to leave St James’s Park at the end of the season.

After being shown the door at Nottingham Forest, the Scotsman joined United in January on a contract until the end of May to bolster Newcastle’s backroom team.

Calderwood initially assisted then assistant manager Chris Hughton and boss Joe Kinnear.

But, within two games of his arrival, the Newcastle manager suffered heart problems just hours before the 3-2 win at the Hawthorns against West Brom on February 7.

Kinnear underwent a triple heart bypass operation and has not returned to Tyneside since.

However, that win in the west Midlands was as good as life got for Calderwood in his role as assistant to Hughton.

On April 1, Alan Shearer took over in the managerial hotseat, bringing with him ex-Crystal Palace and Oldham Athletic boss Iain Dowie and medical guru Paul Ferris.

Calderwood will now seek pastures new at the end of a torrid campaign.

Meanwhile, Shearer is hoping that Steven Taylor will be available again for the home match with Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Taylor missed more than a month of action after picking up an ankle injury against Arsenal in March and hobbled off at half-time during his comeback against Spurs two weeks ago at White Hart Lane.

Shearer told the Chronicle: “Steven Taylor might be back (for Middlesbrough), but Jose Enrique probably won’t be back – that’s about it as far as injuries are concerned.”

Yeah Kinnear coming back for sure

He is man!! Fat blobby Mikey is a spuds fan and will bring in Gaz Mabbutt and Kevin Scott to assist JFK in the summer. Rumour has it that Tricky Ricky Villa will also be coming in to hold up Kinnear's IV bottle pitchside on match days. Part-time gig.

He's one of Kinnears, so I'm not overly bothered. Certainly doesn't make it look like Kinnear will be returning.
