Well it wasn't even £42m to begin with: £17m transfer fee + 120k weekly wage (for 3 years as one year was paid for by the compensation) = Around £35m. I have a sneaky feeling it will backfire on Ashley, like a shortage of staff will cause a huge fuck up, somewhere down the line that will lose more money than it saved,....i just cant think where I got the idea from tho. womblemaster Posted May 30, 2009 Share Posted May 30, 2009 £42M+ spent on Michael Owen gave us 30 goals and 2 assists although owen has had shocking season, he did keep us up at least oone year of his contract,(his goals made the difference) so that one year of prem tv revenue you have to directly offset against his wages, which means he hasnt really cost us anything....in theory. IN practise that outlay cousl have landed a better midfield player that would have improved the team. imo its the alan smiths, and other mediocre players who have cost us dear this season, utterly unjustified wages.
