cp40
I'll believe it when its official as I honestly believe its Sunday morning paper talk at a quiet part of the year. Any story related to NUFC sell papers, fact! Direct quotes from Ashley in the Sunday Times suggest it's true. And you believe everything in the papers? I can't believe you're still defending this lot. remind me of lemmings.

You don't think there might be some legal issues if they just completely make up an interview with Ashley where he says he's gonna sell the club? No I don't believe everything I read in the papers, but I believe the believable stuff. Do you disbelieve everything you read in the papers? No, which is why I'm waiting for some official wording from either the club or whoevers selling the club before condeming Ashley to NUFC history. Simply believeing one paper after reading the amount of newspaper shite we've faced in recent years is like listeneing to a poster who spoke to one of the 'insiders' at a golf day. LoveItIfWeBeatU
And to think Mike Ashley supposedly turned down an offer to buy the club from the people who went on to buy Man City. He couldn't have done a better job at destroying us if he'd tried.

J7
Terrible timing. All my optimism from last week has gone. Even if it takes a month to sell the club we will be feeding off Championship scraps for players. And I can't belive some people are wanting Shepherd and Keegan back. Shepherd isnt the only person who can manage a football club, and Keegan isnt the only alternative to Shearer. Fuckin hell! Get a grip.

AyeDubbleYoo
Fucking hell, thought that story was from the last time he tried to sell for a minute there! Worst possible timing if true, is Shearer even going to want to sign now that the future ownership is in question?
garth
For the first time since I've been supporting Newcastle I'm feeling really worried. The previous couple of days I was starting to feel really positive and thought we going to get rid of the dead wood and start to move on, now! I just feel gutted. Guest sicko2ndbest
Timing stinks. A potential takeover will be drawn out leaving pre season planning ( i know those words are alien to this club) out of the window with all the best buys already being tied up. If Ashley really does want out he needs to accept anything that would be considered an ok offer 50mil plus. If he was man enough to scam 939 mil in one day out of short sighted investors he should be prepared to take a 200mil hit at the same time. Whatever happens it needs to be done quickly. I appeal to MA to at least give us some semblence of a parting gift and get rid of this mess he has created asap!

macphisto
I think this is great news though not something most people didn’t know already as he’s always wanted to sell the club, his moving forward after the Liverpool match showed everyone how committed he really was to the club! I can't believe the negativity surrounding this news, for all those people banging on about stability, well stability is only a good thing if the right people are in charge and Ashley just hasn't got a clue. Ashley has wanted to sell the club since day one so we would never have stability under him. I’m not sure why people blame the demonstrators/relegation/possibility of Shearer not staying for Ashley wanting to sell up. He wanted to sell well before any of that happened. From day one we had rumours he wanted to sell, then he admitted to looking for “partners” like the QPR model, after this he wanted to sell for “security reasons” after the demonstrations and now finally he simply wants to sell! I also think that new owners will come on board fairly quickly if he sells at a realistic price but if it takes time fair enough. I wouldn't really be too bothered if any of the players left in the interim period because none of them are top notch and I don't get taken in by all this having to prepare for next season. The Championship is not a good league and any half decent team would be able to stroll it. That's not arrogance but fact as this is the league where Kevin Philips scores for fun and Jonathan Greening is always rated as one of the best midfielders! If we had new owners in place by August and they backed the manager I would have no doubts that we'd get promotion. The planning and preparation would only be needed if we were skint and no new owner was on the horizon but I think we’ll find a buyer and no new owner would buy the club without having money set aside for transfers to get us promoted. One other thing, being in the Premier League is not the be all and end all when buying a club. We are a club who has just been relegated with the third highest attendance in the country, at a knocked down price of £100 million we would represent fantastic value for money as the potential for growth is fantastic, together with the fanbase and facilities that we have. Even in the Championship we are a much more attractive investment than the vast majority of clubs in the Premier League. There will be times next year when we will have the highest gate in the country including the Premier League! One last thing for all those people who say the demonstrations at Hull may have put buyers off well I reckon it’s those same demonstrators and fans that make this such an attractive club to buy. Having the third largest attendance when getting relegated together with not winning anything since 1969 is what makes this club so special and having such a loyal fanbase is why I don’t think it will be hard to find a buyer! merlin
I cannot believe how many on this site would be doing handstands to see Shepherd back at NUFC - as someone already said ' has too much alcohol damaged your memory cells?' Talk about a dog always returning to its own vomit - it is Shepherd's fault that the club was in such a vulnerable position to be taken over by Ashley in the first place ; he was the Chairman who failed to take the correct decision about SBR(he should have been given a place of the Board and asked to recruit his successor in the summer of 2003), but because Shepherd had his own agenda, it suited him to wait until a year had passed and the club's situation had worsened with SBR being another year older.... The club needs a complete revamp from top to bottom as Shearer said last week - no going back to people who failed in the past, it needs a new vigorous ownership who will run it as it should be run, even if it takes 3 years to put it right - and I include in that their right to choose their own manager operating with PROFESSIONALS in the Boardroom - not Casino managers.... This is the LAST CHANCE SALOON for NUFC - mess up this time and the club is finished ; the best that will happen under Shepherd is more of what he achieved after SBR went - the club will become like Sunderland were(note I said WERE, because who knows how they will do under new ownership ..??), and be a Yo-Yo club ; up and down between the Prem/Fizzy, losing any decent players that happen(by accident!) to force their way through the system to make the grade...in effect, a return to the McKeag days. As I said last week on another thread - If Shepherd returns as Chaiman, or even as a major figure at the club - that's me finished after almost 50 years. Thanks Merlin this is what it means to me. Thanks for understanding everything. it would depend on what fred learned from last time. I've learned MORE than enough about him after his first stint at the club - my views stand, and I won't change them ; neither will he or his acolytes....
