Exiled in Texas
And we think having players injured is bad... Wednesday, September 8: Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team had left their local airport when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff on their way to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where they were to play their opening game of the Kontinental Hockey League season. Of the 45 on board, 37 were players, coaches and team officials. Sad day. A whole team, coaches, staff, wiped out. The other teams in the KHL are all supporting the idea for each team to send one player to Lokomotiv to rebuild their team to start the season. Cool idea....not sure on how the logistics would work etc. Maybe they'd like Alan Smith?

Reminds me of the Zambian side that lost the entire team in a crash and rebuilt the side from scratch and made it all the way to the ACN final the following year - taking the lead in the final vs Nigeria only to lose. Still stands as their best ever finish IIRC.

With that motivation and his leadership they nearly crafted one of sport's all time tales. Unfortunately, this once great side have yet to recover. They did get back to the knockout stages of the ACN in 2010, but Vincent Enyeama and Nigeria denied them once more.
