gdm
we need to do something special to get him. IMO it will be worth it to up the bid
oldtype
The thing is that Moses is probably looking for a shop-window club where he can show off his stuff for a couple of years and get his "dream move" to a top 4 side. In that respect, being a "big club" or having lots of fans probably matters less to him than being guaranteed playing time in the Premiership. Additionally, past example has shown that moving to Newcastle isn't exactly the best career move for young prospects...
LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-utd/2010/01/31/newcastle-lose-out-in-chase-for-victor-moses-79310-25723350/ Newcastle lose out in chase for Victor Moses Jan 31 2010 by Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun NEWCASTLE have lost out to Premier League opposition for Victor Moses – after failing to stump up £2 million-plus for the Crystal Palace “snip”. Moses is set to hold talks this morning with one of two top-flight clubs who met Palace’s administrators’ asking price of £2.5 million. Wigan are the team expected to clinch the signing of the 19-year-old striker, who was keen to join Newcastle, only for the Magpies’ failure to make a competitive offer to prevent him from formally discussing a move to St James’ Park. And United manager Chris Hughton is now pondering a loan swoop for Everton striker James Vaughan in a bid to beef up his striking options. As recently as Friday afternoon, Moses and United were hopeful of agreeing a deal to take him to Tyneside. But then the two top-flight teams entered the bidding and left Newcastle out in the cold. Moses’ agent Tony Finnigan told the Sunday Sun: “I’ve been given permission by Palace’s administrators to speak to two clubs in the Premier League. “I will be going with Victor to speak to one of them in the next 24 hours.” That club is understood to be Wigan, with Palace manager Neil Warnock also confirming that Moses is bound for the top flight. “I think it’s done, Victor is going to the Premier League,” said Warnock. “I think £2.5 million is a snip for one of the best young players we’ve got.” Although the transfer window closes at 5pm on Monday, Newcastle have time to tie up a move for Vaughan, as loan deals are not subject to the deadline. gray
Surely its not the fee. Pretty sure we bid £2.25m for Beckford
Thespence
Surely its not the fee. Pretty sure we bid £2.25m for Beckford I know some people hyped up our bid but it was £1.8million "We could have picked up a quick £1.8 million cash from Newcastle for Beckford's transfer and Becks wanted to go." Ken Bates
gray
yeah but wasnt there a sell on clause, meaning if we bid £2.25m leeds would be left with £1.8m cash? Edit: 20% apparently http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/Wealdstone-to-net-profit-if.5972749.jp
Guest johnson293
Maybe we did only bid £2m, and have been outbid by £500k. But, until he actually signs, theres still time for us to now up our bid (if we really want him), now we know what has been accepted. I dare say the player isn't in as good a position to turn down the move, when its the administrators accepting the highest bid, so he may only be going there becasue of their bid. Until he actually signs for Wigan, I wouldn't say this is a done deal.

I have only saw the figure £1.8 million in quotes & the people at Wealdstone talked of being gutted at not getting £360K, which is 20% of £1.8million. Wullie
Absolutely cringeworthy when folk say "OMG what a loser, can't believe he's chosen Wigan over us!" Er yeah course he has, as would anyone with more than one brain cell. As for James Vaughan - ffs.
Thespence
CNZ even left us for Wigan

gray
Er yeah course he has, as would anyone with more than one brain cell. Why? for 4 months of premier league football? Genuinely don't see the attraction of Wigan over us. Could even understand more if it was Forest.

Yeah chose a prem club over us, which is fully understandable but a little short sighted on his behalf. Playing at a samll time clubwith very few fans etc blah blah blah. This is what happens when you are outside the porem.

Wullie
Why would he want to sign for a club that is by no means guaranteed promotion and if we get it, will spend next season rooted to the foot of the table, with a points total that will probably be in Derby/sunderland territory? Not to mention our record of bringing on young players compared with Wigan's - absolute no brainer.
gray
Fair enough. I think we're as guaranteed promotion as Wigan are of staying up.

Well do you think Mike Ashley's going to finance this squad to the point where it's fit for Premiership survival when the current issue is that he won't pay £500k extra for this kid who's supposed to be so good? With this squad as it is, we wouldn't get to double figures.
Guest toonlass
It's disappointing but if he has a chance to play in the premiership he would be mad not to take it. On to the next one then, we still have time to get a striker in.

Thespence
Not to mention our record of bringing on young players compared with Wigan's - absolute no brainer. In the life span of PL history only Liverpool & Man Utd have had more winners of the PFA young player year award than us. England U21 captain, Englands U21 record caps winner, the launch pad for Bassong & CNZ. Currently giving England U19 & U21 strikers a chance. If Moses wants to play for a club then he should chose us over Wigan, if he wants to play for another move down the line then Wigan should be his choice. gdm
We won't pay enough. Wigan will. End of story, dosnt matter who he chooses. Wigan's bid was accepted. Our's wasn't. Talk of who he would choose and why is irrelevant
macca888
Fact are this: Moses has not chosen Wigan. He is only speaking to them. Administrators have chosen what bids to be accepted. We didnt match two other PL club bids Therefore, the matter is out of his hands. He will go where he is told to go to.

With this squad as it is, we wouldn't get to double figures. Tough to predict the future tbh. Going off previous goings on i'm worried what will happen if we do go up but there is also serious shit in the prem that we as a club should be able to compete with in a basement battle. I can see your point but I still think as a club, we in the championship on a promotion push is more attarctive then wigin farting abolut the bottom of the prem who will also be in a relegation battle, like i predicted at the start of the season.
