GM
It's always the same people complaining about the police / stewards on here...... They pulled us in on the A19. They told us they were acting on 'information recieved' I'm not joking when I say that at least 6 squad cars, 2 vans and as one copper was happy to enlighten us an ARU as well. And the dogs! They 'detained' us for 30 minutes while they filmed us, nigh on took the bus apart looking for what I haven't a clue. Drink likely! There was none. And post match a lad 12 years old got hit by a missile flung from the smoggie bastards and cut his head. Paramedics had to patch him up. Aye same happned to me. You were probabaly on same bus as me, if you were on the one thatthe lad got hit on the head. Seems you were both on the same bus as Blef: Dirty, cowardly smoggie bastards threw a brick outside the ground and it hit a 13 year old bairn from our bus on the head, splitting his head open. Seems opportuni-giggity-giggity knocked, and passed you by.

MW
from nufc.com Having published guidance before the game to the effect that there would be no hold back after the final whistle on Saturday, Cleveland Police then opted to block the road outside the away end "for safety reasons". The intention was to escort fans travelling by car or train away from the ground - which itself was flawed, given that people park all over the town centre. However an apparent lack of organisation quickly saw some of the police lined up stand aside and usher fans through. The section of the police cordon nearer to the railway line failed to follow suit and actually waved in reinforcements. This resulted in some fans being crushed as they were herded by officers with batons drawn - a complete over-reaction to a crowd whose only hostility came as a result of the treatment they were subjected to. Just just yards away meanwhile, there was the ridiculous situation of other away fans walking along - parallel to the restrained away fans - without police interference. And far from segregating supporters, this ragged approach actually resulted in a random mix of home and away fans, police vans and horses leading away from the stadium. That's what the usual post-match scene has been like here and once again there were no outbreaks of trouble, save for the inevitable small-scale flare-ups that routinely happen outside any ground. From our own observations, the muddled and haphazard way this was policed succeeded only in raising tensions among fans. The reasons for this change of heart also remain unclear, given that this type of holdback/escort hasn't been deemed necessary at this game for years. So, attempting to police a problem that didn't exist resulted in the creation of a problem. Council tax spent wisely then. PS: other fans who travelled by train have reported poor organisation at Middlesbrough station post-match, with the police forcing fans on to the wrong trains - was all this not meant to be a thing of the past? Adam
I had a hockey match down billingham yesterday, on way back while second half was on, went in to the bp garage just outside of boro, lad in my car had his toon shirt on, police come over and ask if he left early as we were 2-1 at that point. I had to show them all my hockey kit to prove we hadn't been to the game, bunch of tossers.
Guest n4e
From what I heard, Crumpy and Blef got picked up at Easington services. Now I'm no expert but I'm sure (I could be wrong though) that Easington falls under Northumbria police and that they were acting outside of their juristriction if they picked anyone up there. 'outside their juristiction ? this isn't smokey and the bandit where police can't cross state lines you know.

leffe186
Always seemed to me that the justification used to keep away fans in the stadium longer would actually be better served by doing the reverse. The (relatively small) away following can leave quickly and make the last train home/avoid the usual twats laying in wait/get out of Dodge.

leffe186
Always seemed to me that the justification used to keep away fans in the stadium longer would actually be better served by doing the reverse. The (relatively small) away following can leave quickly and make the last train home/avoid the usual twats laying in wait/get out of Dodge. Why molest the majority of the stadium, when you can inconvenience a small minority? But you're not doing that, are you - you're molesting the minority by not inconveniencing the majority. I realise it's not going to happen, but the argument is that keeping the away fans behind allows the home fans to disperse to prevent trouble. Surely you could get the (usually much smaller) away following out quicker than the half hour they're usually kept in, and with greater ease? If you're a home fan then (a) obviously you live locally *cough* or (b) you have a regular route in or out. If you're an away fan then chances are you either have a limited number of trains to catch, have a coach sorted or have a bugger of a drive home. Would it not be more humane to get them out of there sharpish? It's a pipe dream, but I've been on the wrong end of ludicrous away situations too many times. Would be nice to see roles reversed. I'd also like to be in a packed home crowd serenading the away support as they slunk away.
