Great day. :)

The highlight of a footballing lifetime for an entire generation of Sunderland fans and, unsurprisingly, it didn't involve Sunderland.  ;D

I'd say avoiding relegation on the last day despite losing and having to rely on other results "involved" us.

You weren't celebrating staying up man, it would have taken a mathematical miracle for you to have gone down.  You were celebrating a loss and a dreadful end to your season because, hey, at least the mags went down.  That was your equivalent of us playing 100 games in Europe, beating Barca, tonking Man U 5-0 and beating our local rivals 5-1 all rolled into one.

It would have took a Hull win and Newcastle win, hardly a "mathematical miracle".

A Hull win against Man U.  Wasn't there some kind of goal difference involved as well?

Not sure and if their was then it wasn't massive, because I can definetely remember being very worried that it was us who were going to go down.

Fans in Sunderland hear of Newcastle United Reserves' narrow loss in a meaningless Friendly.

If we'd stayed up in that manner I'd have still expected us to roundly boo the squad for putting us in that position in the first place, not celebrate like league winners.

It wasn't until our game was over until your place erupted as it did, your game finished a couple minutes earlier and Hull had been beaten so your safety was secure but the celebrations were put on ice until our game was over.
