A mate of a mate (divnt shoot me eh) reckons we've signed Mehdi Abeid from Lens #NUFC

That was from @MarcSDuffy on Twitter. Not a whole lot of info out there on Abeid, but it looks like he's an 18-year-old midfielder who plays for Lens' reserve team. He's played for France at the Under-17 and 18 levels.

Notw (I know) says Mbengue for £4m will be here in the next two weeks. Given they rejected €6m a month ago I think the fee's a bit low. Also says we're still after Gervinho and that Nolan will sign a 5-year contract. Something there too about a £500k lottery style bonus to one lucky staff member (cooks, cleaners, training ground workers, etc) if we finish top 10.

Daniel Sturridge 'to opt for Newcastle transfer despite Spurs interest'

Daniel Sturridge looks likely to leave Chelsea at the end of the season - and he will opt for a move to Newcastle over his other main suitors Spurs because he feels the Magpies give him a better chance of regular first-team football.

Sturridge, who turned heads with a starring role on loan at Bolton this season, has spoken of his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge - but only if he is given an opportunity to start games.

But the arrival of Fernando Torres in January - and the increasing liklihood of Didier Drogba remaining at the club if and when Carlo Ancelotti leaves - could mean Sturridge is forced to request to move to get playing time.

And although Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is thought to have made contact with the Blues already about the possibility of taking Sturridge in a permanent deal, the 21-year-old is thought to favour a club where he is likely to be a regular.

‘I want to play first-team football regularly for Chelsea but if the chances don’t come then I will have to try and look elsewhere,' he said this week.

‘I do want to play regularly here but for me, next season, it’s very important to play first-team football.

'I don’t want to say I’m going to leave the club and whatever Chelsea decide it’s not for me to make that decision - the only decision I can make is I want to play first-team football.’

Newcastle will have plenty of money to spend if signing Sturridge comes to a bidding war with Spurs, having sold former star hitman Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January for £35million.

Manager Alan Pardew has also made no secret of his desire to sign a young, hungry striker with Premier League pedigree, meaning Sturridge fits the bill perfectly.

However, Bolton manager Owen Coyle may still have some part to play in the battle for the England Under-21 star - especially as it already looks like he will be forced to begin next season without another of his top forwards Johan Elmander.

On Friday Turkish side Galatasaray claimed they had reached a deal with the Swede, who is a free agent this summer, over a contract for 2011/12.

If we get Sturridge I would be amazed and delighted. From the bit I've seen of him, reminds me a little of Andy Cole...
