It's not excuses for the players/managers to say they can't converse because of the vuvzelas. A vuvuzela creates 130db sound (the qual to being only 100 feet away from a jet engine.), now imagine there being thousands of jet engines around you. Will you manage to talk to someone? Of course it will effect the quality of the matches when the players can plan things, and as Messi said, having to play as deaf person.

I don't think the players are very good at sign language either.

Got the iphone app, woke up my house mates up by playing it through a megaphone this morning.

:iamatwat:

Nice one. Wish I had a megaphone. I did drive a busker away from our table at the café earlier with the app, though.

They ain't so bad at the minute with the drums and some actual rhythm. It's probably just white folks f***ing it up and blowing randomly.

Always the whites a fault.

They needed to be woken, it was half 12 ffs and the vuvuzela sound worked a treat.

I assume bbc may do what talk sport used 2 do. Play through recorded atmosphere and cheers and boos, used to work really well, was just like a normal match atmosphere in the background. Best we can hope for really

I for 1 will be watching on the red button if they sort it

so then Nelson Mandela spends 27 years in captivity for his people.

In the 20 years since his release what have they done?

They've all learned to play the VUVUZELA.

there's some terribly thought out analogies in this thread, the sound is annoying but it's nowhere near as bad as shooting people or throwing things onto the pitch. it's not going away, just deal with it you whining maggots.

I'm sure we all agree that pelting players and mass brawls are wrong, but just because you draw the line a little further back other people doesn't mean they're "whining maggots" or "mongs".

i didnt call anyone a 'mong'. i said they were whining, which they are. i also agreed that the noise was annoying but i'm not miserable enough to suggest its ruining the world cup. no-one's got a god given right to dictate what sort of noise should or shouldnt be made at a football match, they just sound like spoiled kids.

Nope. Adam^ did. You called us "maggots".

Sure we're whining. What are Internet forums for if not a good old whine? If one of us did have the right to dictate what noise should be made at a footie game, there'd be no need to come and have a good moan in this thread, would there?

ok, you use it whine, i use it to whine about whining. it's about perspective though isnt it, accept that you dont have any control over it, accept its not going to stop, start enjoying the world cup more. or allow it to really bother you and have it ruined for you, it only happens once ever four years mate.

Which is why it's annoying it's getting ruined by these fucking plastic shitfest vuvuzelas, even the players and managers are complaining.

Dangerous for your ear.

http://gfx.dagbladet.no/labrador/121/121504/12150436/jpg/active/960x.jpg

Professor Eckhard Hoffman at the Aalen University is testing how high a Vuvuzela gets on the desibel scale. In this attempt the metre stops at 147db, but other times it went as high as 160. This is sky high over the pain limit of the human ear.

(Dagbladet): Even after multiple protests, FIFA decided yesterday to ignore the compaints about the Vuvuzela.

- The Vuvuzela is here to stay, and will not be forbidden. They are a part of South African football culture. The Vuvuzela have become an International instrument. FIFAs director of communication, Rich Mkhondo, says.

That argument makes no sense, Chief of Medicne at the Ear/Nose department at St. Olavs Hospital says.

Confronted with the fact that the Vuvuzela have been measured at higher desibel than 130 (By the Hear the World Foundation), he makes it clear that a ban is the only right decision.

- If people are seated right next to something measured at 130 desibel, it should be illegal in my point of view. It has nothing to do at a football stadium, and it's very dangerous for the ear, Arnesen tells Dagbladet.

- Are we talking permanent damage to hearing?

- The ones that get it close to the ear will almost certainly be in imminent danger of permanent damage to their hearing, you can even get acute noise damages from just a short exposure to 130 desibel, even if it only lasts a few seconds.

The man behind the plastic plague on the stands in South Africa is named Neil van Schalwyk, and paradoxally he is also the main producer of earplugs to the ones who can't stand the constant noise, and there's many of them, which is why the demand for ear protection is bigger than what the South African market can offer.

Arnesen himself would never have risked going to a match in the World Cup without protection.

- I would never be near a match without proper protection for my ears. I'd rather look a complete idiot, it's irresponsible to go see these matches without protecting your hearing.

- Are ear plugs enough?

- Maybe. But you don't get all the noise away, but it removes the sting. Maybe you get the sound level down 30-40 desibel, then you're under 100, and you can go through a couple of WC games. But even with ear plugs, people should not put themselves through this more than a few hours a day.

- What do you think about FIFA not banning the Vuvuzela?

- If they weren't sissies they would have banned them outright, but they don't dare doing it. If they were at all concerned about the health of the people going to these matches they'd say no at once, but it doesn't look like they care about the health of the football fans, Arnesen tells Dagbladet.

Many Norwegian insurance companies are saying they will not pay out any insurance to people who get permanent damage to their hearing if they were attending matches at the WC.

It doesn't bother me that much, except during the SA game. It'll be the England team that ruin if for me. As always.

More than anything, I just think it's retarded to blow 130dB horns constantly for 90 minutes. How does anyone get anything out of that?
