While you're at it ask Ashley to rename the Gallowgate to The Kop.

Malandro, don't be so silly. I'm pretty sure Newcastle United create and donate far more money/partnerships than this idea ever would. Pubically backing this idea would potentially cause a storm between the club, the fans and the charity and I don't blame them for wanting to steer clear

I’m not being silly. It’s just a black and white shirt. The club don’t have a monopoly on black and white shirts.

Won't matter. Got a response today with the SBR foundation explaining that whilst they thought they idea was good, and that they'd be happy to accept a donation of the proceeds, they did not want to be a part of it officially unless we had the support of NUFC. Which we don't, and won't.

There's work being done on a back-up plan shirt without the SBR logo and the shirt not being mass-produced as there'll probably be a massive drop in potential interest without the SBR logo on the shirt, though. So something could still come out of this and the proceeds would still go to the foundation.

There are plenty of other worthwhile local charities the money could go to. I kind of understand the SBRFs position but its almost like theyre taking sides. Put it this way, if the club had wanted to do a range of SBRF sponsored shirts would the SBRF have insisted on the supporters endorsing the idea? And theres more than a hint of hypocrisy in not being prepared to back the idea but being happy to take the proceeds.

The football club may be owned by one individual but NUFC belongs to the supporters. Its an integral part of the regions identity and has a heritage that strecthes back a hundred years. NUFC is in the fabric of the city and runs through the blood of the supporters. The idea that creating a shirt that celebrates this has to have Mike Ashleys permission is abhorrent.

What would the club have done if the SBRF had supported this idea, taken some kind of retaliatory action against a charity? Thatd be big of them.

 Still think we could try the club and just not state that the shirt will look like a Newcastle Utd shirt...and try and come across well?

So what happens when they find out it looks like a Newcastle shirt? We'd have connned both NUFC and the SBR foundation then.

Nobody would have been conned. People have free will; they can choose to spend their money how they wish.

We'd have conned NUFC into telling the SBRF that they'd be free to support us since it's not a shirt that would compete with NUFC's shirt (i.e. Black & White with Newcastle references), and then put out a black & white shirt with Newcastle references regardless of what we told them for them to tell the SBRF they were cool with the shirt.

Can't see the club supporting this. Theres nothing to gain and its in direct competition to their own shirts. Its a non-starter IMO.

No it’s not. If people like the Puma shirt they’ll buy it. If they don’t they won’t. The club don’t sell a non profit making shirt. The club shop doesn’t stock any items that donate the mark up to charity?

i think folk will buy 1 balck and white shirt to go to the match in. the club will see it as competition.

Who cares what the club sees. They shouldn’t be allowed to stop people who aren’t motivated by self interest from entering the market. The SBRF seem to be scared of the club, worried that lending their support to an idea that could raise money for their stated objectives could result in the club throwing a huff.  What do you think they are scared of?

If you were in charge of the SBRF and you knew that backing this idea could ruin the partnership with Newcastle Utd who donate and create (letting the SBRF use St James park for charity games/functions etc) far far more money than a few shirts sold, of course you wouldn't back it.

And the club would do that would they? I can see the headlines now....

Ashley Bans Robson Charity From St James’ Park

Billionaire Mike Ashley has banned the SBRF from St James Park after the charity, which raises money for cancer patients, allowed their logo to be used on a fund raising football shirt designed by a supporter. The club has refused to comment on the decision but an insider claims they were furious that supporters might buy this shirt instead of an official club product and that the words ‘stick your charity up your arse’ were heard reverberating around the corridors of The Milburn Stand.

  • 1 year later...

if people want to start suggesting what would be the best style for this shirt it might give me a better idea of what to design.

i really like that 2nd design you put up, i've just altered it slightly, swapping the blue star to the other side of the chest, making it slightly smaller and bringing the city crest in  :aww:

Decent design like
