The chances of Mike Ashley being involved in negotiations are slim anyway I'd have thought.

he won't be, but it'll be him that has sanctioned the transfer to go through, and set the limit for what we can pay

so that pisses all over the assumption that he wasn't going to sanction anything. Think Obi's got it spot on with his mini rant. FWIW.

it's this kind of approach that got us relegated though, we need players asap or this is going to be a very long season ahead.

should hughton be damanding that he needs players asap, i'm sure many other managers wouldn't accept what has gone on in this transfer

You can't blame the relegation entirely on the dilly dallying of the transfer window. A portion of the blame has to be laid at each of KK, the Club and the players for the way in which it all went.

Yes Hughton should be demanding players but we don't know that he isn't unless someone on here has a direct link with him or is a fucking psychic! He's a measured bloke and I'm quite sure that if he can't get players in now he'll wait till January to assess.

This has to be one of the quietest windows for all the lower level clubs, there isn't much happening, but yes, we need strengthening to play catch up with the mid table teams. How it's gone about is another matter and I like the quiet approach to the FS days of shouting from the roof tops and making us look twats when it all fails again.

Not to say this approach won't fail.

KK went early though, as crazy as it was and for what reason.. there was still plenty of time for the club to get the right man in and us have a safe enough good enough season.. JK was a fkn disaster from the start.

I just hope were not focusing all our energy on this one signing while letting other targets pass us by.

this, was about to post the same but with regards to contingency plans for failure, i.e. do we have any?

nothing wrong with hardball negotiating but at some point we actually do need players to sign

I don't deny any of that, really. Mistakes were made which have set us back f***ing years now. Not to say we weren't set back years by FS and co anyway due to their overspending.

All I'm saying is that we don't know what is happening behind closed doors, we're second guessing and mostly pissing in the wind.

But as Obi pointed out, blaming the Fat Man MKII for everything is ridiculous now - hands up all those who thought (myself included) that when the statement was released regarding transfers, etc, we couldn't imagine signing anyone, bar going in for HBA.

He's got an investment to protect and he isn't as stupid as we make out. I think.

The funny thing with this is that they clearly made it clear to hatem that they didn't want him there,i mean hatem has 3 good games then has 1 bad game and he is on the bench whereas lucho their so called big signing was dire for a whole half a season but was never benched, talk about different treatment.

Deschamps clearly told him he doesn't count on him but soon as niang comes out and says i want to leave, ben arfa suddenly becomes important again, yes he is looking for game time but if you saw the rubbish players deschamps has been playing instead of him you would understand why he doesn't want to be there.

Ben arfa pretty much made sure they won the league last year as him coming to form for the period of february till march was the deciding factor and push into them believing they could win the league but soon he was again on the bench,i hope he f... didier over and says i still want to leave because i don't want to play for him.

Also him getting back into the national team means he needs to be playing and starting so no matter where he goes he will need to be showing laurent blanc that he is to be counted on and i don't see him doing so in om with deschamps as the manager so he needs to leave and hopefully it would be to us.

Have to say, Ashley is a f***ing idiot when it comes to transfer negoiations, and it will bite him back if he doesn't get his act together, with relegation and he'll deserve to lose even more money

Really tiresome blaming the fat git at every slight chance you get. Unless he phoned you up and cackled like Jabba the Hutt down the phone and told you he did something to mess it up. The cautious approach is a bit more refreshing to the gunslinging money burning approach Freddy Shepard had. BFA? SURE THING, MAN, HERE HAVE £15m GEORDIE DOLLARS! How, lass, on the phone in form the Geordie Nation over the Tanoy we've signed the next best thing since Kluivert - they'll f***ing love this.

Can't really blame the club for OM suddenly deciding they want to keep him.

I reckon we all need to calm down. There's a lot of 2+2=5 going on. All we know is he wants away from Marseille and seems to only have eyes for the Premier League. He doesn't seem like the type to meekly return to France and toe the party line so who knows what might happen. I'm still relatively confident that a deal will be done but I'm much more concerned that it wont be done in time for Man United.

It might happen, it might not. C'est la vie.

Exactly. How does the Marseille president saying: "Newcastle are interested but as of today (yesterday), no financial deal has been agreed. We will continue to work with the people of Newcastle and Hatem"

=

:omg:

:)

because, if we had agreed something last week, he could of been our player over the weekend, and because we've allowed negoitations to go for this long, things have changed

It's unrealistic to expect any transfer to go that smoothly.

if a club wants a player, they can get it done within a day (i.e. transfer deadline day)

Totally different situation really. We've got the best part of a month to do a deal.

not in our situation when we need decent players asap

Is that the way you want the club to enter transfer talks? The selling club will see we're desperate and go +£3m thank you! We're taking a quiet approach for once, and making sure we're getting the best player for the right price.

+1

So true.. FS did us great harm in so many ways, Ashley has done us so much harm in different ways. As fans all we can ever do is speculate as to what does go on at the club. It does seem as though Hughton just does what he is told and is just happy to have the job and will never upset the apple cart by trying to demand things BUT we have no idea if it is that way.

I am hearing that fenerbahce have abandoned their move for niang and are now targeting robinho which could mean ben arfa is allowed to leave but it might only mean in a permanent deal because they are talks of them getting closer to a deal for fabiano who will cost them 15 to 18m euros.

wouldnt think fabiano would move to om tbh unless sevilla need to sell

Why people are getting so fretful is because this lad has the quality that we all know the side lacks at the moment. The midfield is very one dimensional, with there being no-one who can do that little bit something different (like Ben Arfa obviously can) Our chances of staying up will be severely diminished if we cannot sign a creative player.

What I think is that this all wild speculation and Chinese whispers caused by substanceless rumours, blogs and articles. The North East journos are all the same aswell, they know fuck all and just regurgitate what is reported in the French press or try to officialise these baseless rumours.

It's all crap, I highly doubt much has changed since Saturday and If it has nobody has any idea how, why or what has changed. We'll just have to wait and see.

Trying to sign this magnificent specimen of a player would suggest that he is, no?

Sadly it's in OM's best interests to keep the deal on the back burner now the market has started moving and other potential suitors take the stage.
