"Mais ils ne nous ont toujours pas envoyé d'offre, clame Jean-Claude Dassier; maintenant qu'ils sont qualifiés pour la Ligue des champions, il va falloir qu'ils se décident !" Cela devient d'autant plus urgent que Newcastle a enfin envoyé une offre acceptable à l'OM. "Ils proposent de lever l'option d'achat si Hatem joue 25 matches et payer les 5% de la FIFA. Nous allons y répondre. Ensuite, à Hatem de se mettre d'accord avec eux, ajoute le président de l'OM. Il faut qu'on en finisse au plus vite avec toute cette histoire."

From l'equipe this morning. Pretty much what everyone here anticipates. Basically our bid is the back up bid to werder's (and has apparently been accepted):

 

Hatem Ben Arfa should be fixed on his future on Thursday. Despite the denial of Klaus Allofs Tuesday night, Werder Bremen is very hot to accommodate the attacking midfielder from Marseille by L'Equipe on Thursday. The German club had even send a confirmation fax to the club Olympian Wednesday night to finalize the transfer, but it failed due to a mishap. Werder committed to do in the day.

 

 

 

I've followed the news of this transfer quite closely, and this isn't the first time when things have supposedly been about to happen only for some mix-up with the paperwork to thwart it all.

For the last few days it's been thought he's been going to Bremen, Werder having sold Ozil to Real and therefore having cash available, but "They still haven't made us an offer," claims Dassier "now that they've qualified for the CL they will have to make their mind up." Their decision has become more urgent now that Newcastle have finally made an offer which OM deem acceptable. "They have offered an automatic purchase if Hatem plays 25 games, [and will pay the 5% of FIFA]. We will respond. Then, it is down to Hatem to agree personal terms with them. We want this affair brought to an end quickly"

Kuyt linked with Inter Milan this morning so a possible signing for Liverpool now.

 

Hell on as Raffa had promised not to try and poach Liverpool players when he left..  I can't this happening not in time for them to get HBA iin anyway.

Is Ben Arfa's contract only got a year to run at OM? If it has our offer is a pretty good one all things considered. Not sure anyone will better it, although Bremen will have the cash now they've qualified for CL.

I seem to recall a HBA quote saying something along the lines of 'It's not about the money.' He wanted to play football. Not sure these excessive wage demands are accurate, [any more than the Steven Taylor ones are. Not saying Taylor didn't reject an offer, but none of us (incl the press) know the reasons for that at present - if we ever will.]
