It's rather sad to see that he's not the force that he used to be. The signs are still there mind so I'm still going to put my trust into him. All he has to do is to get back to basics and stop trying to do complicated stuff. He has to remember that his job is to protect the defence and to find the simple pass to our attackers, he's been dawdling on the ball a bit too much for my liking this season.

He has been way below par, but then again so have many others, including Krul, Colo and Cabaye (when he was fit obviously). They are big players for us when on form. When all of them are off the boil, every little thing is over-emphasised. When he is at the top of his game, he is excellent. But how often have we seen that?

I thought he was good until around 65 minutes.

He was good in some parts of his game but he did give the ball away in daft areas. We've got enough players in his area of the pitch to leave him out for the odd game just to keep him on his toes. He does seem to have got sloppy this season.

Pardew put midfielder James Perch in as Coloccini's partner and he said: "It hasn't been often that we went into a game with James at centre-half. He's been doing terrific for us in midfield and we missed him a little bit in there, just to shore the game up. So what you gain from him stepping in at centre-half, we missed in midfield."

Perch > Tiote.

He has been this season tbh.

I often feel the whole idea of physicality and specialist midfielders like destroyers are often overstated.....

In this day and age i would much prefer a midfield 3 of Bigi-Cabaye-Anita..... they can all press, intercept, tackle, pass, score, create etc etc they can all do multiple different jobs and swap roles on the fly and comfortable in each zone i.e. DM, CM and AM.

Most top teams have midfielders like this who complete multiple roles and not just one and not many use specialist CM's or specialist DM's anymore.

It's a type of player that is slowly but surely dieing and quite frankly against Arsenal having a destroyer didn't exactly help us and hasn't done all season.

Even last season i felt our best performances were with Guthrie and Cabaye.
