Guest Shaun
Sure, let's all get really excited about a key player, arguably our best signing a long-term contract. He's going to be here until he is 30!!! Andy Carroll signed a 5 year contract in October 2010. He was sold in January 2011. Contracts mean f*** all in the modern game. x100

You're right, let's just continue to be depressed about everything that may or may not happen in the future, no matter what news actually comes out in the meantime. Benwell Lad
Why have they done it now? Should have waited until the summer. Why? Because Colo is never happy with what Mike Ashely does. Putting a negative spin on one of our best players signing a new extended contract takes a bit of doing, but it is seemingly possible. Ah well we'll just have to wait for a £35M bid to come in now........

Yeah but because he signed that contract we got 35 chuffin million, at the end of the day the club has moved to protect an asset. If he goes now we'll get a massive chunk of cash, if he stays we have a player who could go onto greatness. Either way we win and are in a better position now than we were yesterday. Cheer up. Guest neesy111
Great News, how anyone can spin this event against the club is beyond me and should really get a life.
Guest Roger Kint
Great news that he's signed on and wants to be here. The worry is that if someone comes offering daft money for him in the summer, we know what Ashley will do. Exactly. Are you stupid? Every club accepts daft money for its players for fucks sake, it wasnt invented by Mike fucking Ashley. Thank God Chris is the one meeting people for U4N as your pathetic, obsessive attitude would derail whatever todays campaign is in minutes.
Dave
It's true that a new contract doesn't mean we can't or won't sell anyone, but if you can't take the positives from news like this then you might as well pack in because NUFC genuinely has nothing for you. Kevo
Great news to wake up to. Why people being so negative? What the hell does MA need to do to make everyone happy? (don't say f*ck off). This shows we are not a selling club. Carroll went because he was being a greedy c*nt and the club had already given him a new deal yet wanted another 2 months later, also the fact that Liverpool paid way way wayyyyy over the odds. Booo hooo, i'd have sold him as well if I owned the club. This new deal could mean three things: 1) We can keep other good players such as Barton and Enrique as well as showing Ben Arfa we are going to be ambitious. 2) We can show any new signings that this club is going places as we're (presuming Jose and Barton sign) giving all our quality players a new deal. We want to challenge for top 7. 3) If anyone wants Tiote, the fee has just been put up to at least £20 million.

Guest NobbyOhNobby
Could have got a much more PL exprienced player for the same amount imo 50k is an outrage if true, 25k at most Tiote is by far and away the most important player in our team. We're still scoring goals without Carroll, but without Tiote we have absolutely no dynamism, no mobility, no athleticism, no bite, no channelled aggression, no foil for our more 'creative' players, and we're a million times better with him in our team. Big statement considering he's only been here 6 months, but I think he's the best player of his type I've ever seen at Newcastle. Imagine him and Rob Lee circa 1993 in the same midfield together.................I just came

By the time summer comes, the likes of Man City and Chelsea won't give a fuck that he signed a contract in February, as we saw with Carroll/Liverpool. At least if it was offered May/June it would have signalled that he was not available under any circumstances during that window.
maze
Doesn't really matter. Throw your pessimism around. This is good news. At least now we get silly money for him in the summer :-)

Colocho
He's one of the best players at this club, and key to it's future. Just find the timing very strange.

Exactly. I'm pretty confident now that Tiote will be here next season - I can't see any clubs paying too much over-the-odds for someone with the reputation of a "destroying" midfield player (even though he's more than that to us). If he is here next season then it is as good, to me, as any new signing, because I fully expected us to be replacing him with a lesser model.
toon25
Cannot understand some of the negativity. Thespence
Either way we win and are in a better position now than we were yesterday.
