AyeDubbleYoo
Taylor is only 2cm taller than Mapou. Granted he competes better in the air (probably).
AyeDubbleYoo
I just think any conclusion based on Lukaku is stupid, Colo played worse against him and he dominates almost everyone. I really wish Pardew had just stuck with Mapou, and we would be talking about a much improved performance instead of whether Taylor should play. You're forgetting the shambles the defence was against Hull, Colo in particular.

Ronaldo
It's a tough one. MYM handled benteke far, far better than Taylor He did? Didn't Benteke only score from open play against one of them? And yes, I know Sissoko was marking him at the time.
Ronaldo
I'm just saying, if Taylor's on the pitch he's the one marking Benteke and I don't think he loses him, either. He certainly doesn't just step away from the herd of bodies like MYM did.

Ronaldo
It's an opinion with a pretty solid basis. Listen, I think MYM has the potential to be better than Taylor is, and here's another opinion: I think he will be, by far, in time. That said, right now Taylor's better suited to PL football by a distance, and by far the better partner for Coloccini.
Mole_Toonfan
Benteke did a lot more from open play against Taylor than he did against MYM. In the 2-1 last year, only shit finishing from Benteke stopped him from scoring a hatrick. Against MYM this year he did close to f*ck all outside of one corner which tbf Taylor might have stopped. But that is really irrelevant tbh, the end result was the same with both of them.
Ronaldo
If one performance against Benteke in which he scored forms a large part of the argument in favour of playing MYM, it's a bloody weak argument.
Conjo
You want Taylor based on one incident during a match.......

The College Dropout
MYM's positioning is pretty bad. He's often using his pace to make up for mistakes in positioning. Doubt Pardew will make any changes in defence anyway. This isn't the game to put MYM back in. It could bury him.
Guest hydeous
As long as it's not Willo. Don't want to think about what Suarez will do to his nice hair.
Guest firetotheworks
FWIW, I've always thought that Taylor's marking from set-pieces is crap. I have no specific examples, simply because my memory for stuff like that is pretty shite.
The College Dropout
A lot of people on this forum talk like Taylor is crap at everything, even the things he's decent at. And say some shit like MYM not being much worse in that regard anyway so he should start. Load of bollocks. Reminiscent of the Cisse excuses at the start of last season. Guest firetotheworks
Oh look, College Dropout is here to re-write reality.
The College Dropout
NO Logic: Taylor's not even good in the air. MYM's only slightly shorter he's not much worse. Reality: MYM doesn't even mark opponents aerial threats. NO Logic: Steven Taylor makes blocks and last ditch tackles to make up for previous mistakes in positioning. MYM has a better footballing brain. Reality: MYM often uses his pace to make up for his poor positional play. And if not that, he'll run away from trouble/physical duels. The College Dropout
Same thing is happening with Tiote. He's just shit at everything and he's not much better than Anita at the things he's good at so he should just sit it out.
TRon
As long as it's not Willo. Don't want to think about what Suarez will do to his nice hair. I think we should play Taylor and Willo against Liverpool. No better way for them to prove that British spirit and physicality is key in the premier. AyeDubbleYoo
Watched the DVD from last season (cheap in CEX) and the amount of times a forward just breezes past Taylor and scores or sets up a goal is unreal. Obviously that's the worst of his highlights like.
alexf
Think it's pretty safe to assume any combination from our selection of centre backs are going to struggle against Sturridge and Suarez.
