Saw a snippet in today's Metro paper saying Everton were lining up a move for him if Pienaar goes.

I saw that. Makes no sense at all.

Totally different position and style to Pienaar, you wouldn't want to sell and he wouldn't get Cahill out of our side anyway. Top paper, the Metro.

And he's a Liverpool fan to boot.

24 goals in 66 games is some return for a midfielder

It would be, if he actually played in midfield.

Last year he spent most of the time as a second striker. Not knocking the importance of his goals, but he's not been playing midfield in anything like the traditional sence of the word. Deep striker at best.

Don't think he did like, most often appeared centrally in a 4-4-2, especially at home.

I know it's sentimentality speaking here, but I wouldn't like to split our front 6 up right now with the thought of Ben Arfa. Genuinely don't know which player I'd take out to accommodate him.

I know what you mean, and it's a good time to say that after thrashing Sunderland, but let's revisit this in 3 or 4 months.

Anyway, we need a decent squad and Ben Arfa would be an awesome addition if he recovers.

Someone on Blue Kipper the other day said he was the "perfect long time successor to Tim Cahill"

Not sure what Victor Anichebe would say about that mind, though it is mental that Nolan's younger than Cahill.

That site. :nope:

Speaking of which, Anichebe's back playing in the reserves. By my calculations, this means there's enough time for him to get injured again before he exacts his violent revenge on Nolan at SJP in.... March, is it?

When you think it costs £12m or whatever just to get a striker who can get double figures, for us to have a midfielder potentially capable of that for £4m is priceless.

Aye. It's why Guthrie was pushed out to the right so often. Didn't we go Carroll-Loven upfront?

Routledge - Guthrie - Nolan - Jonas

Carroll - Lovenkrands

... post-Jan.

Wasn't that the midfield against Cardiff at home?

Probs, this being my point.

After January of this year, that was the typical line-up - that's what i was getting at.

We all live in Kevin Nolans house, Kevin Nolans house, Kevin Nolans house!

Edit: Just seen it's been mentioned, but we should get this to catch on, great song!

I agree Nolan has been completely useless in some games thus far this season as opposition have starved us and him of oppourtunities and take away Nolan's goal scoring and his overall performances are not all that good. Especially if we are playing Carroll up front on his own, that does limit us.

But goal scoring seems to be what his game is all about and i just haven't got that before. No one can deny his positional play is superb and he's such a natural goa scorer.

However this new formation CH has formulated seems to accomodate him (and everyone else) quite well... so far. Not sure if its 442 or more of a 4312 but it looks to accomodate everyone and our best players seem to be thriving in it....so far.

Arsenal away will be the ultimate test really. Time will tell if it works or not. If we don't try we'll never know so lets give it our best shot. If we get trounced we'll have to come up with something else for similar away games.

It reminds me of the story Matt le Tissier told - he was still up and coming and his new manager was going through his first team sheet with the squad. It only had ten players, and le Tiss thought he was going to miss out. But then the manager points to le Tiss and says something like "All of you pass it to him, he's going to be where he wants to be" (Forgive me, it's a half-remembered fragment of a memory)

That's kind of like what we have with Nolan - ten men with clearly defined roles and tactics, plus Nolan.

It worked for Southampton, it can work for us too...
