relámpago blanco
We missed Nolan? Did we also miss him against Bolton? Oh not wait, he 'played' in that game.... It doesn't matter who plays if tiote isnt in our side.
Mick
Bolton are way better than WBA. 1 point actually which is the number of points we'd be worse off without Nolans goals.

JH
Nolan is the most overrated player on here. And that's fucking saying something. I would put every penny I own on the result being no different if he'd played today.

We would have had drawn against West Ham - which means we only would have got 1. We got 3. Difference is 2.
Guest BooBoo
To be fair who rates him? Most acknowledge he's a poor player who will chip in with the odd goal. It wouldn't have been difficult to top Guthries abysmal showing today. A pub player would have improved on that no show.

Hanshithispantz
I would say Nolan was the most underated player to be honest, he's no where near as inept as people on here like to make out.

Darth Crooks
the football league certainly overrated him
Andy
If nothing else, Nolan offers a link between midfield and attack, which is what we were sorely missing today. He wouldn't have sat anywhere near as deep as Guthrie did.

He is when he doesn't score. Not realy like, he's not the best on the ball and his array of passing is nowt to be envious of but he offers a bit of bite in the middle (a lot more than Guthrie has shown recently) and he always offers top support for Carroll. I don't think it's any coincidence that when Nolan plays Carroll seems x10 the player he does when he's not. His presence on the pitch (both vocaly and physicaly) seems cliche but it cannot go unoticed, he definatly is the type of charicter that can boost a team low on morale. Obviosly there are a lot of cracks there that are papered over when he gets on the scoresheet, but they aren't as bad as people tend to make out when he doesn't. Perhaps he is indeed missed in some way...but I equally don't accept this common idea that hes some massive inspirational influence to the team. That's overrated somewhat. Some people seem to think hes like some motivational raconteur when hes around.
Hanshithispantz
I agree, hence how I think it's a bit cliche when it gets tossed about, I have no doubt he does have an effect on the team like but not to the extent that they somehow fold withought his valliant presence amongst them. Yes, but you could also argue that we need Barton on the right wing in order to give Carroll a supply line.
Guest Howaythetoon
He's a big miss and those who wanted him dropped, well... the options are Guthrie and Smith who are both poor performers at this level, in fact they were average in the Championship last season, as we are finding out. Nolan has played in most of our poor games, holding today up as a reason to play him doesn't stand up when our heaviest defeat of the season was with him in the team. Nolan as his worst is almost as bad as Guthrie was today as in both cases we play with a man down. I understand that statement is subjective and either of us could be right or it could be somewhere in between.

Guest Howaythetoon
Guthrie is a huge disappointment, by now he should be stamping some kind of mark on the team, but he does fuck all literally.

Im not claiming the result today would be any differant with him in the side dont get me wrong, I just think his weaknesses are over analysed and his qualities completely ignored by most unless he scores (in which case the forum goes into overload as to how he is indespeniable to the team )

I would have settled for a fuck all performance today. Instead Guthrie served up a "fuck all except repeatedly squander position and deliver dross from dead balls." I'd settle for Barton through the middle and Routledge on the wing. Even though our best performances this season have probably been with Nolan in the center and Barton on the wing? I can't think of a more frustrating wing combination than Jonas and Routledge.
