Ronaldo
It's true, like. Routledge was probably our best player in the final 5 months of last season. Seeing what he did to teams like Coventry and Blackpool genuinely had my beaming for days. Not in a long time had I seen an NUFC winger destroy teams like that. Yorkie
Just don't get what's wrong with keeping Barton on the right when he's been so good there, and we've won games with him there. Routledge is good cover.
wormy
Exactly. The only argument against Barton on the right is 'it's not his natural position'. It's his most useful position for us, right now. That's the most important thing. To move Barton to the middle means ditching Nolan. Not gonna happen. It's gonna put Nolan back off the shoulder of Carroll, and he's much less effective. Overall, Barton in the middle would be more of a detriment to the team than Barton on the right. midds
Horses for courses. Barton HAS to play. He's our best midfielder imo and must start if he's fit. I like Routledge and his pace worries teams. I'd play him against poorer teams as he could really hurt them.
wormy
Still wouldn't mind seeing Routledge replace Jonas for a few games, see how he'd do.
ChrisMcQuillan
Still wouldn't mind seeing Routledge replace Jonas for a few games, see how he'd do. Dropping him for Routledge might well give him the smack he needs to try a little harder in the final third.
wormy
I've always been a fan of Jonas. Even up until recently. But there's only so long we can carry a player that needs a 'kick up the ass' every few games. There's a point where we just need a more reliable player. He's not good enough, even on his day, to be let off for that.

wormy
Everyone keeps ruining my dream of HBA in the middle!
Guest rosstoon
HBA to sign a 5 year deal plus another strike lined up. I think if we can do this and get Barton and Jose and Colo all on extended contracts that would suit me. Plus if being greedy a right and left winger who can create a cross or
joeyt
If Wolves go down (and we stay up) I'd like us to try for Milijas. I know this is more of a realistic summer target
Guest
Ship Jonas back off to La Liga and have a look at Downing?
Dave
Not sure how Stewart Downing is realistic, especially when people think we couldn't afford Matt Jarvis.
Guest
Didn't realise he had to be more realistic but I reckon we could attract him back to the North East.
Disco
Downing would cost a lot of money and would have little resale value that would be higher so no chance IMO.
Dave
Didn't realise he had to be more realistic but I reckon we could attract him back to the North East. Sorry, I edited that. I thought you had been one of those saying we wouldn't be able to afford Jarvis, my mistake.
Guest
I can't imagine he'd cost much more than £8m and if we could get £5m or so for Jonas I think it'd be value for money. Or how about Etherington? Pardew knows all about him and is like Guppy in that he can knock the ball past the full back and deliver quality.
Dave
Selling Etherington would be like Stoke asking to be part of a relegation battle. No chance.
Disco
Can't see Etherington leaving Stoke like. Arguably their best player and he finally seems settled and working on his demons.
Guest
One last shot at playing regularly in a stadium like ours though in a team trying to play football. Maybe even a last stab at getting international football if he's supplying the bullets for Carroll at club level.
Dave
Ah, Jarvis only signed a new deal in September. Forget that one then.

toontownman
Downing would cost a lot of money and would have little resale value that would be higher so no chance IMO. Downing and Adam Johnson on either wing, SJH will be having a wet dream. HBA to sign a 5 year deal plus another strike lined up. I think if we can do this and get Barton and Jose and Colo all on extended contracts that would suit me. Plus if being greedy a right and left winger who can create a cross or 2 This would be ideal. I think we will see a LB in on loan and a Striker. Really hope the striker is significantly better than what we have, we need to ship Xisco, Best, Lovenkrands and Shola out, the latter two can wait until the summer. I think we will be in for Keane without a doubt. I expect him to end up somewhere else though.
Guest Stephen927
Downing or Jarvis would be fantastic, both players who constantly look to float crosses in every time they get the ball. Not sure on Downing's situation at Villa, he might fancy a move with Houllier there, a few players haven't been happy with his methods. We'd have to pay through the nose for Jarvis due to his importance for Wolves. I don't think they could replace him in January and without him I'd put them down as certainties for relegation.
