Oh my god, he's not played for Jamaica?

He'd be a no-brainer in the England squad.

Apparently he’s said he won’t play for Jamaica until they improve.

...you could, ya know, make them better by playing for them, Leon.

On this Bailey thing, every report I've read says that two of his grandparents hold British passports rather than saying they were actually born in Britain. I'm not sure if it is the case but his grandparents would have to actually have been born in Britain for him to be able to play for England

I'm sure his complaints were about the infrastructure and the dysfunctional nature of the FA, rather than the quality of the team. That's not something that he can necessarily do anything about and as sad as it is to see minnows lose quality players, it is sometimes understandable on an individual level.

No doubt there is an element of individualistic career based motivation too, mind. However if a football association is corrupt and shambolic it just encourages such a decision.

I’m just sayin’, I don’t wanna hear any gripes about all the foreign-born players who suit up for the U.S. if this kid chooses to play for England

I doubt he’d have said as much if he didn’t have a chance to play for somebody better. This just gives him a way out.

Far be it from me to tell a player which country he should represent, but at least be honest about it.

Was just reading his wiki. He was Scotland assistant manager for a while and in 2008 they had a friendly against a Maradona managed Argentina. In the build up, Butcher had a massive go at Maradona about the hand of God calling him a cheat. After the game, Maradona was asked about Butcher's comments and he just replied "Who is Butcher?"

Nigeria-Iceland ticket fixed. Volgograd on a roasting hot day in June, here I come. The inner Scotsman cries because of the monetary considerations involved, but the inner football-loving kid is ecstatic :D

Our centrbacks are all crooked, two of the planned starters got their ACLs all ferked up. Which means that the eternal Berezutsky twins or even the 60 y.o. Ignashevitch might still have to play. Or, we might have to arrange a Russian passport for a certain Waldermar Anton who plays for Hannover, with his parents being from Siberia iirc. Already got two Germans repatriated (Rausch and Noedstedter), so why not. What, with youth football still failing to produce any consistent amount of quality players in certain areas. If I were a fan of either Egypt or Uruguay, I would bet my house on Russia conceding in these matches. Literally a handful of players remotely ready for first team international duty at one of the most crucial of positions.

Good news for anyone who has tickets to matches in Nizhny Novgorod and does not intend to bring family along - quite a few of their pub and bar owners plan to work 24/7 during the tournament. Awesome party town, can't wait.

I've never been this disinterested in a World Cup before.  Combination of general disillusionment in Football, us being s***, us being in a s*** group, and Russia being a s*** place.

Been there? Heard so much good about Russia (or at least Moscow and St Petersburg), or is this just some ignorant opinion based on what you've read online?

Russia is an abhorrent country that does horrible things to its people. It’s also the worst possible spot for an international sporting event given its well recorded history of state-sponsored cheating.

If you can ignore all of that I suppose it might be a nice tourist spot, but I have no interest in it whatsoever.

I don't disagree, but feels like double standards. Not gonna litter this thread into a political thread however. As a sporting event I think it will be great, especially since their state-sponsored cheating won't mean anything in this sport.

 I did. Every World Cup there's a few weak groups. Let's be honest, the real reason you're not interested is because you think South Korea will come out of this with 0 points. I think you've guys got an ok chance of going through to the next round. Both Sweden and Mexico are underwhelming teams, they're good, but nothing special.

The most corrupt rich country in the world walked into a draw organized by the most corrupt organization in the world and walked away with the weakest group in modern World Cup history.  How confident are you that nothing shady happened?

These guys made Donald Trump President man, you think they can't mess with some ping pong balls in a draw being held in the goddamn Kremlin?
