Andy
Well that was certainly an "astonishing attack". Incredibly strong words there from Alan.
mattypnufc
Feeling the pressure Al? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4484095/Alan-Pardew-hits-out-at-agents-over-slow-transfer-window.html What a fucking waste of space of an article. Wouldn't expect anything less from that paper though.

LFEE
Anyone going to the AP & JC talk-in tonight?... Hopefully we'll get a better idea where we're at with transfers and playing style etc...

Elliottman
Saying that like, we can hardly talk about valuations. You want the best, you have to pay the best.
Guest BooBoo
There comes a point though where it is just ridiculous: Wolves wanting £20million for Fletcher is a good example, ludicrous over valuation.

Dan Gleebals
There comes a point though where it is just ridiculous: Wolves wanting £20million for Fletcher is a good example, ludicrous over valuation. I would say that is low considering the mackems are involved.
Dan Gleebals
Him saying no one else has done anything apart from Chelsea is bollocks to be fair... Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have all spent money. The later two our most likely rivals for 5th and 6th places. OK, the spuds are likely to be missing a few come the start and Liverpool have lost players too but they are all spending £10M+ on players. Otherwise, he is probably spot on about valuations. Everyone knows we are all about to get a shit load more money (TV), hence, they are trying to get the best possible deals done. Any sensible business would. Agree. As long as clubs can afford to say no to a "normal" bid, its not their problem. Wolves saying £20m for Fletcher is the same as not for sale at any price really. If a club is stupid enough to pay that kind of crazy money, its buyers problem. You can say football is fucked, but as long as selling club can afford it, and the player is important enough for them, who can blame them?

It's certainly a strange line of argument for a club that sold Andy Carroll for 35 million pounds.
Colos Short and Curlies
I've had a quick google but cant find an exact list - but it would interesting to see how many right backs have gone for more than £7m - particularly those being sold across countries which usually are lower than within the same league

Unbelievable
There comes a point though where it is just ridiculous: Wolves wanting £20million for Fletcher is a good example, ludicrous over valuation. Is it though, for a player who would so much more valuable to them as part of a promotion push? That's exactly it. Wolves are apparently in quite a good financial condition so they don't need to sell, and their aim must be to come straight back up especially with the new TV deal coming into effect next season. If they sell their best players now it may prove very expensive one year down the line if they miss out on the minimum 60 odd million Premiership clubs will get from the new TV deal. Also fully agree with sicko's post. We of all clubs are in now position to complain about high player valuations.

Even if a player hands in a transfer request, does a club "have to" sell? Maybe they do, I'm not sure.

Even if a player hands in a transfer request, does a club "have to" sell? Maybe they do, I'm not sure. They could say that, but I don't think it would go down well with the players. As everywhere, every player has their price; it's just that price is naturally a lot higher when you don't need to sell and ideally want to keep the player. The point is player valuation is not some sort of objective measure, whereby you can say a striker has scored X goals and provided Y assists, so his worth is Z. It's all well and good saying Fletcher is not worth more than 8 million (and in a way that's probably true as you can get similar quality for around that mark), but there are always other, subjective considerations that determine what a player is worth to the buying or selling club. For Wolves, Fletcher may well be the difference to coming straight back up or staying in the Championship for the foreseeable, for Sunderland on the other hand, if they have no realistic alternative and considering the top bracket of players will not be interested in joining them unless they pay well over the odds in terms of fees and wages, he may be the difference between staying up or going down next season. With the money involved in the Premiership it's easy to see why a player valuation can become so distorted from a player's actual level of quality.
