Ishmael
So where do we stand in regards to the January transfer window? What is the clubs official line, are we going to spend and bring in the players we of so desperately need to avoid relegation? Or are we going to slog it out and pray that we find a way to accumulate enough points to avoid the drop? No question that our squad lacks sufficient depth/ability. We are desperate for added creativity in midfield. At the very minimum I would be demanding an extra winger and if possible a creative central player. We are desperate for added quality in our front line. Ranger/Xisco/Best/Loven/Ameobi, none of that list have the ability to score/contribute on a consistent basis. We need one quality forward at least - no question.
jdckelly
need to shift out some players too probably to free up some cash, guthries offered nowt this season what does xisco do for his wages? best it just hasn't happened for him. winger is the highest priority for me then striker
Disco
Everyone has known this for ages though thats the problem. It hasn't been addressed for years. How long have we not been operating without an understudy LB for example? As long as I can remember. We are, still at times, badly missing HBA who was brought it to address some of the problems. Dave
Pardew said he's happy with the first team and we'll be looking to bring in one or two for squad depth.
Ishmael
We do need cover for LB but that really isn't a priority. Glad that this isn't something that has been forgotten. Just have to pray now that Pardew and the senior management acknowledge AND take actions.
Yorkie
As much as i don't want to see Alan Pardew build his Newcastle United - reinforcements are absolutely essential.

Robster
Does anyone serious expect us to "strengthen" the squad. We may add to it, but personally, I am not expecting any genuine quality to be added.
Guest Tall Striker
First of all need to clear out Smith, Guthrie, Xisco, Lovenkrands, Ameobi and probably some other useless twats i've forgotten. Then need to bring in two new Premier League Quality strikers, a good right winger and back up left back. That'll do for January. Unfortunately we'll probably get Tyrone Mears on a loan. oldtype
The only position I'd put the "urgent" label on is striker. Pretty much do or die. Otherwise it's not going to be easy to get players who are an improvement on what we have with the kind of money we have who would be willing to come here in January. Ishmael
Pardew said he's happy with the first team and we'll be looking to bring in one or two for squad depth. That's acceptable. No question that a first XI of Krul, Simpson, Colo, Saylor/Wilo, Enrique, Barton, Jonas, Tiote, Nolan, Carrol + partner is capable of matching 75% of the teams in this league. The problem is when one of the team (just one is frightening) is out and we genuinely are considerably weaker. So yeah, not far from what we need. 2 is a minimum. midds
The squad isn't thin it's anorexic. Perch, Smith, Lovenkrands simply aren't good enough and it's no surprise that when we need to play more than one of them we invariably lose. It's not a coincidence. Identifying the problem is one thing, replacing them with better on the cheap is going to be virtually impossible.

How long have we not been operating without an understudy LB for example? As long as I can remember. We are, still at times, badly missing HBA who was brought it to address some of the problems. This is the problem with chopping and changing managers, no-one gets to build a squad. Granted a back up LB is essential and should be spotted by any manager but the rest of the squad is still unbalanced.
Disco
We do need cover for LB but that really isn't a priority. Glad that this isn't something that has been forgotten. Just have to pray now that Pardew and the senior management acknowledge AND take actions. It should be a priority though. We should have at least 2 specialist players for each position. Thats the bare minimum I would expect in a squad. Jose could do a HBA in Feb and we'd be kippered for the rest of the season. Striker, winger and LB have to be added to the squad and hopefully remove some of the chuff that isn't good enough for this league.

More so that we have to concentrate on over positions first - forward and winger/amc.

Ishmael
We have loads of forwards who just aren't up to it. No way would I be prepared to rely on any of them for any amount of time.

This striker needs to be a 'first teamer' then.
