UV
Yeah, we lost Carroll, but it was always the case that he'd be off to a "bigger" club sooner or later. At least we bagged the seventh biggest transfer fee ever I like how we've gone from being a "trophy signing" club to being a trophy sale club, and it's being spun as a good thing. IMO Ashley's been as lucky as fuck this season and last. We'll see how it all pans out in the future, and if we do well in the next couple of seasons I'll give him credit for it. FWIW I hope you're right about the direction of the club. They say there's a first time for everything.

He should thank the players and Hughton for that - if they didn't have such a good team morale, personal pride and collective responsibility then we could have seriously struggled if the attitude of the players when we got relegated had prevailed. Dave
And our lowest paid first-teamer was probably on huge wages by Championship standards anyway.
Wullie
And lucky that several ultimately key players had very high wages but very low stock so we couldn't get rid. Very much doubt we kept players like Coloccini out of choice.

Guest neesy111
Very positive. Carroll sale was good business considering his injury etc, Pardew is impressing me and even the likes of Best are stepping up to the plate when required. Need to spend wisely in the summer if we going to continue our improvement.
madras
Probably wouldn't have come up without them. yet they and there wages helped take us down.

Wallace
I think the reason more players did not leave when we got relegated was more to do with Ashley and Llambias abandoning the club whilst they tried to sell it. Agents said at the time they had clubs interested in some of the players but there was no-one to contact at the club who was able to make a decison. By the time, they realised they would have to get involved again in running the club, it was too late to move too many on and I guess the players were resigned to staying put at that point. Thespence
And lucky that several ultimately key players had very high wages but very low stock True. A win next time out & a SAFC loss would be the boost everyone wants & it would set up the last 10 games of the season nicely.

Just can't see Best and Loven scoring the goals regularly enough to stay as high as we are now.
UV
Some of the ones on huge wages left anyway. those that were offered it. th rest stayed as no-one wanted them or wouldn't meet their prices. Exactly. In that way we were lucky, as I think if he had the choice Ashley would have sold off more players, and we may have struggled to get promoted. Forced ambition if you like. This season we've only had an average injury list, and not all at the same time, so it hasn't impacted us so much. The players still with us who got relegated have done far better than most expected almost to a man. Tiote was a good piece of scouting no doubt, but there's also luck that a player who was a sub in a Dutch team hit the ground running in the Prem, and we were especially lucky with the way Carroll developed, as going into the season our strikeforce looked way below average at best.
