And that was a time when we were fairly one-dimensional and played fairly direct a lot of the time. Was much more complete than when he went to Liverpool imo where they restricted him to a more defensive minded midfielder. That goal against Arsenal. The shining light of a shite season. Yorkie Posted February 20, 2014 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Loved Bernard but Enrique definitely shades him imo. Jose was an exceptional player for us, especially at the back. And although he didn't get much in the way of goals, the way he brought the ball forward and linked with attackers - plus a good eye for a long pass - made him one of our best attackers, too. However Alan Smith is definitely the worst striker (who had more than the odd game) that I've ever seen for us. Utterly woeful. Have vague memories of Stephen Glass being quite good? Worst of the worst of the worst. It's true that - in PL history - there have been worse collections of players relegated (or even survived) than our '09 mob, but when you consider the likes of those two played most games, it's telling.
