Levante have only paid 400k in transfer fees in 4 years, iirc.

Their transfer policy has been very astute given that fact, they are getting the best out of veterans like Ballesteros, Del Horno, Munúa, Farinós, Barkero, Venta, Juanlu... players that were all very promising 10 years ago but never quite got there but are flourishing at the moment.

Marca has released the top selling shirts by club. They don't provide an overall ranking although they say that Cronaldo's the overall top seller.

Real Madrid:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

2. Özil

3. Kaká (heh)

FC Barcelona (no Fàbregas, surprising)

1. Messi

2. David Villa (surprised by this)

3. Iniesta

4. Xavi

Athletic Club:

1. Llorente

2. Javi Martínez

Atlético de Madrid:

1. Falcao

2. Diego

3. Reyes

4. Turan

Valencia CF:

1. Soldado

2. Piatti

3. Canales

Villarreal (apparently personalised tees vastly outsell player shirts):

1. Rossi

2. Cani

3. Nilmar

Málaga:

1. Cazorla

2. Van Nistelrooy

3. Baptista

Sevilla:

1. Kanouté

2. Negredo

Espanyol:

1. Dani Jarque (wow)

Mallorca:

1. Laudrup

Kudos to the Espanyol fans but I guess selling anyone remotely iconic recently probably aided this.

The Espanyol board makes your board look like the ManCity owners. Every time they get a player remotely interesting he's happily sold in the next transfer window. This summer they sold their entire front 3 and replaced them with a 35 year old Pandiani and a kid from their B team.

Here it is.

To the left, the most liked teams, to the right, the most hated. It doesn't add up to 100% because people had 3 picks.

Massively surprised the amount of Barça fans that don't name RM as their most hated team. The "hate ratio" of Espanyol may look low but can be explained by the fact the rivalry is actually low outside Barcelona, and they asked fans/gloryhunters throughout the country.

Apparently they are going to publish more results of the poll in the following days.

From that poll it seems to me that most who call themselves Getafe and Rayo Vallecano supporters are fairweather fans who are actually Real Madrid supporters. Don't see any other reason why 82% of Rayo fans would hate Barça or why 60% of Real Madrid fans would list Getafe as their other preferred club.

Getafe are almost RM's little bro. Even their president is a self-confessed Real Madrid fan and ST holder.

A bit surprised about Rayo, while I was there I always got the impression there was a pretty strong rivalry between them and Real, with lots of anti-RM chants at their place. Might have been a vocal minority.

Another batch from the poll today on As. The topic is "club vs country".

Here's a table listing club fans according to their preference for club or country, on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 means total preference for country, 5 total preference for club.

http://s5.as.com/recorte/20111011dasdasftb_10/LCO/Ies/Preferencias_Seleccion_equipo_propio.jpg

Overwhelmingly people prefer their club, even the "patriotic" ones like Real Madrid. And that's despite our NT going through its best period in history.

Unsurprisingly the two Basque clubs and Osasuna top the list too.

Why such love for Real and Barca; the two teams systematically destroying the league?

Well, they are the reason we are "destroying the league", Barça and Real Madrid completely obliterate the rest of the league in terms of viewership and merchandise sales. It's quite chronic for people in Spain to follow their local team and then pick a side in the Barça/Real Madrid war.

Why is it "not surprising" that Osasuna are up there with the Basque clubs ? I don't know a lot about Osasuna.

Just seen Levante beat Malaga 3-0. What a job Juan Ignacio Martínez is doing. 12 points ahead of the drop already, maybe they can aim for more if they keep their run going.

Aye, also I hate goal music in general, but their's is brilliant.

Navarre has a sizeable Basque population, and Osasuna in particular a large Basque tradition. "Osasuna" is Basque for "strength".
