Guest neesy111
So does anybody still think that relegation will see him sell up? I don't. I know there were a fair few wanting us to go down in the hope that he would somehow lose heart and flog the club, but he'll just be looking to bounce straight back up and get his brand plastered all over the screen again. I do. His tat empire is struggling really badly and the consensus in the City is that he wants to take s*** Direct private again. To do that, he's going to need the cash and selling the club is the only way he can raise the required revenue. The loss of the TV cash will be a huge blow as that won't be available for him to continue to siphon off, the advertising space & revenue he's stealing from the club will plummet in terms of international exposure, merchandising sales are down and will continue to drop, so that's more money he's stealing from the club which will dip sharply in value. He'll struggle to find a shirt sponsor of any repute and if he makes the mistake of putting 's*** Direct' on the shirt then... wow. So unless we look like coming straight back up (which was nailed on last time, but won't be this time IMHO) I think the worse we do, the more likelyy he is to sell. For the first time since the c unt turned up, I'm cautiously optimistic we might get our club back. His business really isn't struggling, still makes a good profit. JH
I don't think getting relegated will make him more likely to sell at all. To be honest, it will make it harder. He has his price and that won't change - who is going to pay such a phenomenal amount for a has-been failing Championship club? We have to be succeeding for him to sell. Which makes his decisions even more bizarre.

For the first time since the c unt turned up, I'm cautiously optimistic we might get our club back. We all thought exactly the same last time round when we got relegated, but I can remember being shocked at just how shit the standard was in the championship. We even got outplayed a few times but still ended up winning because the teams down there just couldn't finish. We have a high value squad, even if we have to flog off a few prima donnas, we'll be in a much better position than most other clubs to buy the replacements to get us straight back up. Ashley won't sell, he'll just tighten the belt in areas which in the short term won't impact on our chances of bouncing straight back up. That means backroom staff, tea ladies and the like. I'm not even sure he'll hire a cheap manager necessarily since that policy has got us relegated at the end of the day.
NG32
Im not sure who is out there, the fat mess should go cap in hand to KK and beg him to promote the club again. (yes I know that bridge has sailed)
Kanj
Wish KK had a fuck load of money and could just buy the club or put together a group to buy it.

midds
Now that it looks like relegation is almost 100% confirmed I'm veering more and more towards going down again and ripping the club apart. Scatter the bits for miles and put it back together properly with people who genuinely care for the club and who put it's interests first. Keeping the current status quo will just prolong it even longer, lance the boil the quicker the better and if it means going to the arse end of the country every other week then so be it. Supporting the club and having a bit of pride in it is far more important than following the current NUFC in the PL. I want my club back and if it needs to be virtually destroyed first then so be it. His primary aim is premier league exposure - he'd just keep us if successful, he just can't be arsed to do the necessary legwork. I agree he wouldn't sell it quickly as he's a stubborn arsehole but if we're down there long term is that attitude going to persist? I don't know how you can be so sure either way. So much of the motivation relies on being in the big time.

This. Absolutely this. NUFC in its current form means nothing to me. Staying in the PL won't change that
Big Geordie
I can see lots of happy-clappers baling out this summer, if we go down. Where is the attraction for them, with no PL football? If the club starts costing him serious dosh (after a year or more down), he will have to consider putting it up for sale. People need to stop going, for the message to hit home loud and clear. There will be a begging letter of some kind, once the season is over. Season ticket 'deals', more empty lies and promises.

Put it this way, if he wants £400m* then Mike Ashley is the kind of person that will still want £400m after a couple of years in the Championship (in fact, he will probably want more as we will get less income down there). He won't flog us on the cheap, he just won't - otherwise he would have done that by now. *for the sake of argument, not saying that he does.

I hear what your saying and I don't doubt it could well be the case however that scenario hasn't played out before. Sure we went down before but he was supremely confident of a swift return. He might even feel that way again for two, three years or so if (lol) we go down this year. We've not got to a point yet where PL is a distant possibility. What I am 100% of is as long as he views a cycle of finishing low in the prem/yo-yoing as an option/possibility then he'll never leave.
AyeDubbleYoo
The pressure will increase on him once we've been down a year or two. Then he'll have to make a call about how long he is in this for. He'll still need a buyer who thinks they can get us back unto the PL mind.
Superior Acuña
I think the crowds will be lower than last time we went down. That time there was a defiance and it was a novelty, both of those are gone now, I'd say.
