Jason Prior stretchered off with broken leg

2 half chances, 2 chances, one hellish finish according to Ryder.

That's not a bad return at all.

As pointed out earlier, aside from the goal it's probably just as promising that he got into the positions.

Yep, lets hope he can do something here. It would be wonderful to be the club with the story worth telling rather than the expensive striker who turns up and plays shit.

Greg McDermott wins the ball on the halfway line and saunters upfield with a good run before playing the ball across to Jason Prior. The trialist has plenty to do, but composes himself and smashes an accurate shot into the top corner from 12 yards out.

Still playing apparently.

Get in! Would probably be behind even Smith in the pecking order though. :okay:

Maybe, but get him training with the first team and reserves. It's probably a step up from what he's used to but should give the coaches & the silver fox a good indication of whether or not he could cut it!

That said.. it's fantastic for us to be associated with a real feel-good story like this for once!

Donachie Pleased For Prior

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Magpies Reserve Team Manager Willie Donachie was delighted for Jason Prior after the trialist scored in his first appearance for the club's second-string.

The big centre-forward hit Newcastle's third goal in their 3-1 win over Wigan, and it was a superbly-executed strike to boot as he rifled the ball into the top corner from Greg McDermott's pass.

Prior, who plays for Bognor Regis in the Isthmian League, has been training with United over the last few days and was handed the number nine shirt for his first start in the black and white colours.

Only time will tell if he goes on to earn a full-time deal on Tyneside but Donachie told nufc.co.uk: "He's a lovely guy with a great attitude.

"It's great having him around - and he's a goalscorer."

That was important to Donachie, because he had watched his side control the first half yet only have one goal to show for it before Jordan Rugg equalised on the break in the second half.

"We dominated without really creating great chances," he said. "We had a lot of shots from distance but I don't think we got behind them enough.

"It was a competent performance after the first 15 minutes, where I thought we were a little bit rusty. After that, we did well up until the final third.

"With respect to Wigan, who are a very honest, good team, we've got better players so I was disappointed to give a sloppy goal away and be drawing, and in danger of not even winning the game.

"That was disappointing but in the end our class told and we scored again and again, and deservedly won."

Does anyone think that this could be Pardew's idea?

As he played non-league football for a number of years imagine he would support it.
