Douglas is under impression that we are signing a very good defender, and are quite a way down the line with it and it might be very soon.

Vertonghen and Colo extension??  :frantic:

FYP  O0

Aye, could live with that like.

He also ruled out Ridgewell, Benalouane and Baines, bearing in mind he didn't know a thing about Cisse, not how serious we can take all this.

Think you've answered your own question there..

Not sure i asked a question like :D

Ajax fans rave about Boilesen id take him all day.

Shame we arent interested at all then. We wont sign a LB this window, would like to know who the 'very, very good player' is Pardew is tracking.

Who says we aren't interested?

Pardew saying its only a CB coming in now after Cisse. FWIW yes i know he said no striker before that but it really was a chance purchase and its just daft to think another will follow.

No idea whether it's him or not but have been told our main man is watching his team this weekend and that we're looking at a defender.

Pardew ‘on guard’ as United step up search for defender

By MILES STARFORTH

Published on Friday 20 January 2012 12:46

ALAN Pardew says Newcastle United are still on their guard in the transfer market – but he’s confident he can keep his star players at St James’s Park.

Pardew this week made the biggest signing of his tenure so far, the £9m capture of striker Papiss Demba Cisse.

And the deal has given his sixth-placed team a lift ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Pardew’s also confident he can add a defender to his squad before this month’s transfer window closes.

However, he’s aware that a number of clubs are looking at his players, notably Cheik Tiote and Demba Ba, though United are yet to receive a bid for anyone.

“The top Champions League clubs could still come in and take one of our players,” Pardew told the Gazette.

“We have to be on guard. Having said that, as long as we react as we have been doing, and replace with as good as, if not better, players then we’ll be all right.

“It’s when you replace with not so good (players) you have a problem.

“We still need a defender. Don’t forget that, I haven’t lost sight on that.

“We’re working hard on that to bring one in, but we still have to be on guard to protect our top players too.”

Newcastle lost at Craven Cottage last season, with former United winger Damien Duff scoring the only goal of a disappointing game.

It came two days after Andy Carroll’s controversial £35m sale to Liverpool.

That deal rankles more on Merseyside than Tyneside 12 months later, and last weekend’s win over Queens Park Rangers moved Newcastle above Liverpool in the Premier League table.

“It was a deal we couldn’t turn down,” added Pardew. “It’s done now, and it’s in the past.

“It’s about where we are now – we’re above Liverpool, and on the same points as Arsenal after 21 games.

“We should thank our lucky stars, and hopefully we’ll get a win at Fulham.

“But Fulham are a good technical side, and have some good players.”

So? That doesnt mean we are sending someone to the biggest game in Holland this weekend for him. Pardew was bigging up his FB options the other day while openly talking of signing a CB. Makes no sense to be interested in a LB imo

Where's this coming from?

He's a wonderkid on LB, and is a naturalborn central defender, played the position through his career. It was first in Ajax he started playing the left back for real. Captain i Brondby IF and Denmarks U-16, U-17 until he jumped to U-19 and then later at young age to the national team.

Very skilled on the ball, has great skills going forward and is very attacking, but has the defensive side of his game as well since he's a natural central defender.

Would be absolutely delighted if we signed this lad!

Some 19 year Ajax left back "wonderkid" apparently. According to Wiki he had trained with Man U and was scouted by a number of European clubs before choosing Ajax as he fancies Christian Eriksen.

On another note we should try and sign Eriksen as it will allow us to field an attack of Erik Demba Demba.

Hamstring injury since September, and will not be fit to train with the first team for another two weeks. His contract expires in the summer of 2013 (although his father has publicly stated his contract expires in the summer of 2012), so if we are really interested I'd prefer to see if he fully recovers and make our move in the summer.

Also, the fact he's a comfortable fullback and centre back sounds something we'd be after.

Aye, exactly what we need IMO. Would give us a lot of flexibility.

Sounds like he's one of those versatile players who's genuinely versatile as in that they're a good footballer rather than somebody like Liam Ridgewell who looks awkward and uncomfortable in both positions but gets by as apparently being 'steady' and 'dependable'.

Ruled out Vertonghen and Mbiwa since this, too.

Also don't think it's Rhys Williams or Samba.
