What an amateur shower. The world stops because an unwelcome turd like Kinnear is on holiday.

As for Bent. I'm happy enough. He WILL score, and will take pressure off Cisse more than Ba ever did

The Bent hatred is getting ridiculous now. A proven Premier League scorer at a low price who offers a bit of presence, leadership and has something to prove.

I agree him and Cisse won't work but let's wait until we try to play the 2 of them week in week out until we moan our arses off.

At 3-4m, I'm delighted.

Leadership?

Exactly the same thing I was going to ask.

Leadership? :dowie:

What's hard to understand? He's experienced in a team with little experience and was also captain of Villa.

Captaining, and even playing in, a Premier league side is something not many of our players offer.

He will certainly offer something in the dressing room.

More likely that Bent and a very small amount of others aside we're genuinely actually not interested in anyone.

Plus we're nearly at Wonga's door after that lavish spending in January.

O0 Agree

IMO its Bent and maybe, maybe one other (oddly I see a keeper as the other most likely).

They think we are fine for CH now that Colo is staying, They think we are ok for width (Cos Pardpoo thinks Sissoko can play effectively there). Add Bent and they think that's enough up front (Cos Pardpoo thinks Sisokko is an option here too). They think we are ok at FB and CM cover:

I don't see us signing any more than 2 ( not incl young teens who are "for the future").

We are led by incompetent fuck wits. Owner, DOF  :iamatwat: and manager:  Next season will be a fucking disaster.

Again, imo.

Didn't Alderwiereld say he wanted European football and not a mid table club (Turning both us and Liverpool down) earlier this year?

Alan Pardew says that Newcastle United are currently chasing TWO strikers during their quest for new blood this summer.

The Chronicle also understands that the Magpies are aiming to add a pair of younger players to their squad, including a new goalkeeper and a defensive recruit.

Director of football Joe Kinnear returns from his pre-planned family break this weekend but has remained in contact with the key figures in United’s backroom team this week.

Darren Bent remains close to the top of Pardew’s wish-list but Aston Villa still want a considerable transfer fee and the subject of wages, with the fallen England striker on £70,000 per week, a factor that could kill the deal for Newcastle.

Pardew wants more of a battle for places in attack and with Shola Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran his other two senior strikers to provide competition for number 9 and last term’s top scorer Papiss Cisse.

United do not want to put too much pressure on promising youngster Adam Campbell and merely want another steady season of progress from the Geordie boy.

Pardew told the Chronicle: “I think we might need two strikers. My competition in that area – Cisse, Shola, Gouff and Adam Campbell – last season wasn’t strong enough.

“In the Premier League, that’s not enough. I need more than that.”

This week Pardew explained that his squad was “thick in places” and that providing United hold on to stars like Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Cisse and Cheick Tiote they have the potential to field a strong XI next term.

And while United are looking at defensive options, a striker remains the priority, indicating that plans to sign a senior centre-back have been put on the backburner.

Pardew has a lot of time for West Ham defender James Tomkins but the Hammers want £6million for his signature.

However, Tomkins’ future is unclear at West Ham and given that they have had Titus Bramble on trial, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is looking into other options.

Yet Pardew says he wouldn’t be too displeased if he gets to September 1 with Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Mike Williamson as his four centre-backs.

United are also looking for tough-tackling South Shields youngster Remie Streete to step things up another notch.

Pardew said: “I think we’re pretty strong there.”

I love how every link in the Journal or Chronicle seems to go 'Newcastle are keen on X, but as their club aren't prepared to give him away for tuppence, this may mean there is no deal'.

And no mention of wingers at all, oh joy, Jonas and his magnifcent back up Obertan :(

are you after wingers as in wide in a middle 4 ? I'd much rather a forward whose comfortable pulling wide as opposed to a winger as part of last seasons problem was cisse being isolated in the box and playing ben arfa in a middle 4 is a waste of his talent.

unlesss you're thinking of a 4-2-3-1 which with "wingers is basically a 4-4-1-1.

all IMO of course.
