Surreal game. You don't see many 'game of two halves' as blatant as that. First half we were excellent, created a few chances, scored a great goal, some lovely interplay, the formation was working very nicely and the fact we got the goal made me think there was no way we weren't going to win. When Shola ran half the length of the pitch and almost scored my old man just burst out laughing, couldn't believe what he'd seen.

Second half we were abject, it was incredible, complete collapse. We didn't react to their change and got killed. I think the players went into their shells as we went 2-1 down despite having dominated the vast majority of the game to that point and they didn't come back out, it was pretty terrible. Surreal. The defence went to pieces and both Cabaye and Guthrie were awful having both played well in the first half, particularly the latter.

One thing I noticed re: Krul's kicking is that Colo seems to be the only one who ever offers for it short. Really that should be the full backs' job - they should be dropping to about the edge of the area and hugging the touchline - this will either give options or drag the strikers out of their preferred positions and decongest the middle.

we didnt go in our shells, it was the opposite.

we tryed to get a goal back, and by doing that both our fullbacks pushed forward including our centre backs our midfield went forward and just let loads of holes in the team,  fulham just ran straight through us

For me, today was one of those games that shows how much we still need to strengthen if we are to make real progress. ACN or not, we can't be left with Shola and Best starting, and Loven on the bench. Apart from the occasional good goal, they do not have the desired quality. Likewise Willo. Midfield has strength in depth,  we have good keepers, but need 2 more centre halves, 1 more strikers, and 1 or 2 full backs to mount a sustained challenge. Get rid of the dross.

you saw that ? i saw us panic, hit it long, lose possession easily and lose shape.

I go out to celebrate brothers birthday and i come back to this ffs, what happened?

I heard someone say Jonas played central in the first half is that true and if so how did he do? I mainly ask because a 4-3-3 could be devastating with the two demba's ben arfa uptop and Tiote, Cabaye and Jonas in midfield IMO.

Does anyone think Ben Arfa will be made as a scape goat? anyway bad day at the office, need to get it behind us as quick as possible and look forward to the next 2 games which IMO are both very winnable.

HTL !

The bonus is that it hasn't affected our league position so we hopefully can take lessons learnt from it and look forward to the next game.

What Liverpool lost? thats a lucky break that......

Still 6th and have winnable games coming up hopefully we can take advantage.

Seen a few people surprised that Jonas was central today, he played there for 70 mins against QPR

maybe in theory, in practise he trailed ben arfa rerady to do his covering for him.

against QPR? not as far as i could see. only saw second half today like but didnt see it there either.

Very true link up with Ben and pick up his pieces... Lol Pardew really think Ben is a big liability

i'm actually looking on the negative and still gutted with Liverpool and Stoke losing we have missed a huge opportunity to break away from those clubs with that 2nd half capitulation.

Negativity is bad for your health. Look on the bright side it was only one match, we're still in the euro spots and a very winnable game against blackburn is on the horizon and I'm confident the lads won't let us down for that one.
