Some brilliant comments on the TotalSport FB page today....

https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewcastletotalsport?fref=ts

"It was the Roman salute NOT the nazi salute."

"Haave you heard those words from his lips Ian or is it just what you have read in the media and from mischief makers who will print anything?...

...Well I will go with the words he said in his interview rather than made up ones by the Press or ghost writers in a biography."

"This is a football & sports show not bloody politics...I don't give two hoots that he's accused of being a fascist"

"Comment on your own thug of a manager."

Love the fact they still get a random Pardew dig in there, too.

Possibly a Giggs, just read this on facebewk...

'NUFC fans are still showing their inferiority complex on here. Basically, they can only throw childish insults and petty abuse at our new manager, when in reality they are absolutely bricking it in case they lose the derby, because if they do lose the derby they are screwed, and the boycoutt brigade will be back with cockney mafier oot and pardew oot sack the borrd etc ..

Your best player Steven Taylor thinks that there is too much class at your poxy little average club to go down. Just like they said 4 years ago when they had Owen Martins Viduka Duff Barton Given the RGs and erm Taylor. The many comments appearing on this page from foaming keyboard bashers about Sunderland just highlight the fact that you are ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of the derby, and of what Di Canio could do to Sunderland.

Convince us Sunderland fans otherwise ... go on ... see if you can put together a sentence with no swear words and make it witty while you're doing it. Most of you couldn't even spell IQ never mind measure it.'

The Bricking it part is my personal favourite

And I bet the Mackem typed that without a hint of Irony, either.

Foolish to get ris of MON. He's a decent manager, if he was given the summer to get some new faces in, let some shite go, he may have had them punching above their weight. Maybe not as high up as Villa, but certainly mid-table stuff and a decent cup run.

As for appointing Di Canio, surprised at this as much as the sacking of MON. I mean, is he really got it at this level? seems a big gamble. If it causes them to drop down the table and take another relegation spot then it's great news for us.

The timing of MON going was wrong, but MON is shit, and was doing the same shit that he did at Villa. It may have worked years ago, but he's been well and truly worked out.

And  @ giving him the summer to get some new faces in.

He's a limited manager, but I wouldn't say he was shit. He hasn't got it right at Sunderland so far, but I wouldn't have written him off doing better next season.

Yes fair do's at the  regarding new faces brought in. I doubt he'd get the Villa money support at Sunderland these days, but regardless of that they do need to change a few around.

I don't know what's worse. Di Canio's beliefs, or the fact a lot of Sunderland fans appear to be so f***ing stupid and ignorant that they won't see it as much of a problem because a) he's at their club and b) because of Di Canio's generally casual demeanour.

Whilst not excusable, their fans' views on the matter are at least understandable to the extent that they are just hoping for the best for their club. You have to seriously question the sanity of Short and the Sunderland board of directors though in making such a loaded appointment with no experience to speak off at such a critical time. It's like you've just lost  a small fortune in a casino and just before the casino closes you desperately throw the keys to your house on number 31 on the roulette table and cross your fingers...

They just never learn do they? With their'bring on the mags' style comments before every derby. Who's to say how the game will turn out, but they sure do set themselves up for a big fall.

they have an almost simpleton view on things. change manager= win derby.

raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 2h

you can't expect a democracy & free press to give someone an easy ride who believes both should be abolished in favour of a dictatorship

Gabriele Marcotti ‏@Marcotti 2h

@honigstein very true. Except he doesn't believe democracy and free press ought to be abolished.

raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 2h

@Marcotti then he's not fascist

Kelly Cates ‏@KellyCates 1h

@honigstein @Marcotti maybe we're overestimating his understanding of fascism.

I'm actually pleased - before this they were all resigned to defeat so beating them wouldn't have been quite as satisfying - they now have 2 weeks to whip themselves into a frenzy of anticipation before Shola crushes their dreams again.

the racists wont like that.

Wonder how their crowds will go, if everyone who is being told to fuck off on rtg takes the advice.
