Parky
It has rather baffling for all the Pardew patter about studying Mourinho and being forward thinking as a manager, he still relies on a rather antiquated 442. The only way 442 works these days is if you have a Carroll esque striker who can provide a bit of strength and hold the ball up. The only player we have remotely like that is, sigh, Shola. He wants Carroll back.
Gallowgate Toon
Are there any sides at the top end of European football still playing a rigid 4-4-2 towards two goalscorers the way we do? No and it's fucking laughable that he insists on playing it. Our 2 central midfielders don't even have designated positions, Anita was further forward more than Cabaye today, why? One's clearly a defensive player while the other is offensively minded. Disorganised shambles.
Parky
There were a lot of games won last year from flashes of brilliance from Ba, Cisse or Hatem. The balance and chance creation of the side is so poor if we don't score from the handful of chances we do create it all falls apart quick.
Elliottman
I've been pretty relaxed all season thinking we had simply made a slow start, I feel like I've snapped today.
Guest palnese
4-4-2 is fine, but you need movement from pretty much everyone bar the CBs. We are not moving into space, resulting in a shit long ball.

We are not moving into space, resulting in a s*** long ball. It's not really that simple though, how the hell were Cabaye and Anita going to compete with Diame today? You actually need really well rounded players and some organisation in attack, not 2 specialist midfielders chasing the ball and not knowing when to make a move forward. We just don't have the personnel for it, even with Tiote.
Mistle17
He's just been given an 8 year contract. Why isn't there a philosophy being introduced and ingrained into our academy? If I was him and had just been given an EIGHT YEAR contract I would be intent on doing that. If he was any sort of a good manager he'd be demanding that our younger teams are taught to play the game the correct way and all our teams play a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 for example, following the first team set up. The only input I've heard that he's had is that the under 18's cant take short corners- it has to go into the box. The same with all of our free kicks too. That just sums him up. Minhosa
Zero fluidity. I can't see how this season turns itself around tbqh. Stop/Start. Injuries. Suspensions. Inconsistent Performances/Performers. I genuinely believe a top quality RB would have transformed our line up this year. The lack of investment seems to have really halted the bandwagon/good momentum of last year.
Guest neesy111
There's no buzz or energy with us now, just dull and boring football.

Guest BooBoo
Just out of curiosity what are people's "bare minimum" expectations this year? Would people accept a slump in the league position if it meant better football? I think I said top 8 and a decent run in the EL and anything less would be disappointing. Whilst things are poor tonight, I still think we'll achieve that. We won't get back into Europe though.
High Five o
Pardew man, please show your real face, and do not pretend to be something you are not! That is my biggest grudge with him. Stop lying to us and yourself. Carpet football, possession play, who the fuck are you kidding man. I believe we have some very good players in our squad, who can do so much better with some instructions. Or am i overestimating the lot of them? Oh, and that awkward moment when you realize your team is playing long balls against a Alladyce team.

He has the time to really make a statement with the side. 'We are NUFC and we play football this way, using this system and we've got the players we need to do it'. Build a fucking dynasty, an image, a style...............don't just fire fight and worry about the opposition.

Mick
I think the Wigan away game scared him off the 4-3-3 which is a shame. Need to give it another go. That's just an excuse, one game shouldn't tell him more than the other games which have been just as bad but more numerous.
Jagten
4-4-2 is fine, but you need movement from pretty much everyone bar the CBs. We are not moving into space, resulting in a s*** long ball. No, it's not. It's incredibly challenging to form passing triangles and subsequently keep the ball - something Pardew has spoken about extensively. Guest bimpy474
"At home we want to get the fans in the stadium in a good place but we didn't start well," Pardew told Sky Sports. "And then we've conceded when we should have squeezed the pitch in that situation. Then we've got a battle on our hands. "West Ham with the way they play, it's very stop-start. There are a lot of set-plays going into your box and it's fragmented. "They had a little bit more power on the pitch. But we still created loads of chances. One looks close to being over the line. We needed a break but we didn't get that today. "We have had nine efforts on goal today and that's enough for two goals really but the shots were just lacking in quality and the final pass was lacking imagination. "We've given everything we can and we've come off losing today."
littlelunchbox
after watching today's shower im convinced not single player in our special team can actually cross a ball. none of our players are capable producing a single quality ball in the final third whatsoever, its great we got some finishers in our strikers, but without quality balls to them. its almost pointless. the team could not string passes, under no pressure as well thats the most alarming thing. we seem to be a team that cannot play a passing game or a long ball game effectively. I've expected us to finish about 10th all season due to the lack of investment and other clubs getting better in comparison to last year (Everton, Chelsea etc). I would absolutey accept a lower position in return for good football and us having a recognised system/style of play. At least that would be a basis from which to grow. Firefighting and worrying about how the opposition line up is not a positive basis upon which to develop long term.

Wide men coming inside, Forwards dropping deep, Fullbacks overlapping. Midfielders pushing forward. It's not rocket science. Most of all you need a fucking plan, regardless of the formation you decide to go with. We've got no plan whatsoever.
