Having a fee agreed means nowt if a) we don't offer it, and b) someone else gets on the blower to his agent.

He's obviously class, and in famous last words, I don't think he'll be as good next season. Last season he was proving himself in the league, this season he's playing for the WC. I think he'll have a drop off next season.

Would still throw money at him to move here though*

*love bankrupting the club me

We're in a position now where we can afford to throw money at him, no bankruptcy necessary ;)  No reason at all financially we can't offer him £85k and a good signing on fee.  That's if we're being conservative..

Let's not forget that Rémy would already be a permanent NUFC player (signed for £8m) if he hadn't screwed us over at the very last minute and signed for QPR.

Aye and we'd probably have sold him in January or after the World Cup anyway.

When was the last time we signed someone then flogged them straight away for profit? Once signed, we've had good stints out of our players here. Don't get the talk they basically only come here for a season, play well then we sell. Seems ridiculous to me. Can't even remember this happening before to suggest that's what we do. Yes  we do look to buy cheap talent in the hope of selling for a tidy profit, understand that, but they have a decent amount of time here and not just half a season/one season like people make out.

Don't be sensible, join the wrist slitters mate, everything NUFC is negative to the nth degree here, sooner you learn that the better your stay will be.

You can want the club to aspire to more and still give constructive and level headed comments to that end though.  A lot of the stuff here is nothing but wallowing in self pity.

We should aspire to far more = negativity.

ok

Stuff like, if Remy signed last summer, we'd be selling him after the World Cup anyways? Howay man, Dave! That's nothing to do with aspiring to more, it's just absolute negative bullshit!

Our history of keeping hold of players that improve exponentially isn't particularly good, I'd expect that is the point. A large factor is the way we have no ambition whatsoever to improve. Remy is a mercenary, it's perfectly plausible he'd have done the same as Demba Ba.

Was in Demba's contract that silly clause. He engineered that in there in hope for the deal he got though. We should look to sign and build which we evidently don't, but it's not as ridiculous as people make out to be. Very much exaggerated to make out like our signings are only here from 6 months to a year when that's certainly not the case.

Are we really having this conversation? The period we retain a player's services is not based on what's best for the team, it's until a) player has reached their "optimal" resale value or (much more commonly recently with our better players) b) they are so fed up with our lack of ambition they threaten to down tools unless we let them go.

In three of the last four Januarys we've sold by far our best performer and done absolutely nothing to fill the gaping void. That's not negativity, it's fact.

Aye it's rotten from the board, disgusting. All for criticising that part of things but playing down us signing people because they'll leave within a year just seems a bit pathetic because it's not the case. Agree with post above, that's basically how it goes. Even that is still a disgrace, fucking hate how we are run!

Absolutely, and it's not coincidental either. It's our f***ing business strategy and to the current owner the very reason for our existence.

Remy has this season been "by far our best performer" as Dave puts it with the others, so it's not much of a stretch to think he might have been in and out fairly quickly.

Well now he's on loan I agree he will probably be away. Had we signed him permanently last summer though, I wouldn't be thinking he's off after WC because he's had a good year. Others we've got now have been just as effective imo this season but i'm not thinking we are cashing in already.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-trigger-loic-remys-8million-3222436

The France forward has impressed on loan at Newcastle United and Arsene Wenger wants him on board at the Emirates Stadium

Arsene Wenger will use an £8million clause in Loic Remy’s contract to gazump Newcastle United for the forward’s signature this summer, writes Neil Moxley of the Sunday People .

The France international has a get-out in his agreement that allows him to quit QPR for that figure and the Arsenal boss is poised to pounce.

Remy has spent this season on loan with the Tynesiders, jumping ship after the west London team was relegated last term.

And Wenger will snatch the forward from under the Geordies’ noses for the cut-price fee by using the lure of Champions League football.

Remy’s 13 goals this season have played a major part in pushing Alan Pardew’s men up the Premier League table.

And there are growing signs that Lukas Podolski will not be the answer for Arsenal on a long-term basis and Wenger needs extra firepower.

Rangers, who posted £65.4m losses this week, will have little say in the matter once the clause has been activated.
