 I clicked that like "IP spoilered the 'Fuck off Mike'." Made the real innocent meme face and everything. Shit.

 I didn't make the decision to post that lightly.

 I've never double clicked a spoiler faster than that. I think you may have added a caption to that, but my eyes shot noise out of them.

Mike, you should really follow the SPL instead. They do this sort of shit all the time. You'd love it.

 I can't hate on a league that's trying to address the lack of parity in their country, man. to Scotland for trying something.

 Mike

I haven't even read the OP yet.

 You guys are the best.

Sewelly, the difference between a postseason and the FA cup is that every team would take the post season seriously. We support a team that doesn't give a shit about that cup. They openly don't give a shit. You can't compare a few motivated teams cutting through teams that barely care to a postseason where every team would be going for it.

We're the only ones that don't care about it man, because we have King Pards. Everybody else does, that's why the good teams keep winning it. Change league to a play-off system and you might have an Everton (like Portsmouth) nab a title once a decade. Maybe.

It's not a viable solution.

 I feel like we haven't given a shit about the FA cup since I've been a fan.

Even if playoffs gave us one out of the blue champ a decade (It wouldn't), it would be better than this big money team carousel we're stuck on. It would throw some parity into the pot too, since the end season standings would only determine post-season seeding. The 1-8 after the playoffs were over would determine league payouts and European places, and all that.

To be honest mate, you've convinced me. That's our way in, our crapshoot at the trophy.

 I understand that I'm an asshole for making a thread. I understand I'm a Yank douche, and I'll be asking for drafts and beer commercials and ad breaks and all that shit you say about us while you wear your shirt with the commercial on it. I get that.

I'm just saying, no sport has been harmed by the addition of playoffs.

 Nah, I mean...we'd still lose, plus it would hurt waaaaaaaay more. It would just be better for the game itself.

But this would just lead to even more meaningless games. So you only have to finish in the top 8 to make the play off? Man u, man city etc had that sewn up before Christmas. They'd have months of pointless games until the play offs got underway.

I mean, what sport has suffered because they added playoffs? Get rid of the league cup that no one cares about, move the league fixtures into those old LC spots. You only need three matches if you go one and done.

Top eight teams like in NBA/NHL make it. One and done. No legs, no agg. Final top eight standings determined by winner, 2nd place, winner of 3rd, loser of 3rd place playoff. Then 4-8 could be GD.

Gives every team something to play for all year. Midtable teams pushing for that 8th spot, get a chance to compete for the trophy.

Best team isn't always the team in first.

 I'll fuck off. I'm just saying, is all.

Really have to disagree with that.  The way the Prem is set up is the most fair way to play a sport.  You play every team in the division home and away, at the end of the day the best team over that distance is the best team, period.  Playoffs throw up too many wildcards.

 I see where you're coming from, but I think that if every team had something to play for (That 8th spot) you'd see those top teams dropping more points than they do now since they wouldn't be constantly facing lower teams playing for a draw.

Nah mate you've convinced me, drafts and play-offs and all your faux sporting socialism is clearly the answer.

I mean, it's not as if the LA Lakers have won 16 championships or anything.

 Playoffs don't eliminate dynasties. They just make them much, much harder to build. Plus we wouldn't be using an NBA playoff system, just the tree. The system would be more comparable to the NCAA playoffs. One and done. The more games you add, the more likely it is that the big teams will take the trophy. Making it single elimination adds quite a bit to the spectacle. Any team can beat any other team once.

I feel like this league is dying for some wildcards, plus I genuinely do not think that teams like City, Man U, etc see the lower table teams at their best, or get their best effort. There's zero incentive for a lower team to gas their players trying to beat a team they're never going to compete with, so they play passively or hold out for draws. The 20 teams in this division almost exist in two different leagues, imo.

Mike just wants the same success for NUFC as the Knicks have had in US sports wonderland.

OH WAIT.

Sorry.

 The Knicks suck, and they have for years. ALL of my most heartbreaking sports memories are in the playoffs, and outside of baseball, I've got nothing nice to say about them personally. But I understand the value of them. I don't think we should do away with them because they haven't worked out for me personally.

It's a shit way of doing it. The teams at the top are there because they deserve to be (albeit with a few helpful decisions from referee's).

If I was to change something then I would change the League Cup by merging it with the Scottish League Cup at the 3rd round stage, both the winners and the runners up would qualify for Europe.
