Mole_Toonfan
There must be something that can get Jonas out the starting eleven ffs. There is simply no positive to him being there nowadays i wouldn't even mind 4-4-2 if Jonas and Tiote don't exist as part of the eleven.

If Jonas starts in any formation, that'll tell you Pardew has learnt absolutely nothing. If he can't see what 99% of fans can. Lost cause.
themanupstairs
Clever ? do what !!! He was as thick as pig s*** all last season. Shola on the wing vs Reading, the absolute zenith of tactical intelligence. Aye along with playing Shola up top when Ba left, leaving Cisse RW, because we didn't have enough time to prepare after Ba left. forgot about that excuse. "We've prepared with Ba here, we cant change it". That's a sackable offence in any profession ffs wow. just wow.

"We've prepared with Ba here, we cant change it". I think this was just about the worst thing about him, he can change formation during a game but not 24 hrs before the match. Just how thick on the thick scale was this Definitely up there with his worst. The fact he was trying to say that he couldn't play with Cisse in his natural position was fucking ludicrous This bloke is still our manager Well he's going to be feeling the pressure in the coming weeks. If it wasn't bad enough having JFK installed above him, now he's going to have big Mick Harford hovering menacingly over his shoulder.

I can actually ignore them two, the way we played and results we got last season should be enough for him to want to do better. I know what you mean though. Gallowgate Toon
Actions speaks louder than words - it's all well and good that he's acknowledging some mistakes but if he doesn't do anything substantial about them (ie. learning from them), then it's all moot. His track record of learning from his mistakes is rather poor so I can't say I'm confident he's going to implement any sort of effective change. Exactly, and to play in exactly the same way, hoofed balls and set pieces in our pre season friendlies, games where you can experiment, well has he learnt ?, don't look like it. Didn't we reportedly play good, on-the-deck football against Motherwell?

Didn't we reportedly play good, on-the-deck football against Motherwell? It was supposed to have been ok, but it was the same old hoofed free kicks from anywhere near the halfway line. The only difference was it was Haris doing the hoofing and not the GK.
Guest bimpy474
Speaking to The Journal , Pardew said: “We have great technicians of a football within our squad. When we finished fifth we kept a lot of games tight and technical. “That is where we let ourselves down last season. Games got too big, too open. “That doesn’t suit the players we have. So it’s something we’ve been working on a lot. “Players such as Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux benefit from working on those tight areas. That’s where they excel. When was that ? Is he actually saying we need to keep games tighter, something we did nearly all last season and still conceded 71 goals.

We concentrated far too much on keeping things tight and ended up wide open as fuck. Need to concentrate on our game rather than opposition in my opinion. Let them worry about us and push them so far back that they are bricking themselves. I think we need to be organised when not in possession but when we have the ball we have to be ruthless and busting a gut to get at them. Our biggest problems have been that we are pathetic at putting a team to the sword. I so miss Keegan and Robson like - other managers just don't get it
Guest bimpy474
It would help if Pardew knew what style of football, shape and tempo etc, the team should be playing and are suited to. He hasn't a clue what to do.
Gallowgate Toon
Is he not suggesting that perhaps we're not physical enough to handle open, end-to-end type matches? We're more technicians than athletes. Working in tight areas could mean he's looking to force teams into their own half more and we have players that can thrive in less space. Guest reefatoon
The only reason games were so open last season, was because he had our midfielders playing alongside our centre backs and getting them to hoof it as soon as possible to an isolated Cisse three quarters of the pitch away. When he was obviously outnumbered and lost the ball, then the opposition had all that free pitch to move forward into. The bloke is a fucking muppet. If we can replicate some of the stuff we played in 11/12 more consistently, I'll be happy, and he obviously has some idea of how to execute that. He's making the right noises at the minute, the big question, for me, isn't about whether he has the ability, it's whether he has the balls.

Gallowgate Toon
tight f***ing spaces?! The amount of teams who bossed the midfield agaisnt us last season just by pressing. What's he watching? He's watching the 3 players he mentioned. He's not suggesting all of our players are good at it, that's why it's one of our main training focuses at the minute.
