oldtype
Might as well just take every corner short. Actually, if the prevalent statistical opinion is true, that's what every team should be doing to begin with.
ikri
The lack of goals from corners is probably the 1 thing I can't blame on Pardle. Those floated set penises are another matter, of course. Who lets Cabaye take all those corners though? Surely after the first 100 utterly wasted corners he might have thought to give corner duties to someone else or set some time aside to get the team to practice attacking (and defending) corners. It's reached the point where we'd be better off putting the ball out for a goal kick since we don't just fuck up attacking corners, we end up creating attacking moves for the opposition. It doesn't matter about jumpers if the delivery is good. Most near post header for example aren't from a jump there about the timing of the run and the delivery whipped in. Whipped in corners, amazing we still dont try. I'm sorry but this is down to a lack of management/coaching ability.

If you did that and alternated with a few short corner routines I reckon you'd at least produce a couple of goals from set pieces in a season. But it needs practice and a coach with some imagination obviously.

But since Pardew's arrival we now have a coaching team that have no imagination whatsoever. Why does Cabaye still take them, why do we still float them and try absolutely nothing different. Can not one of those professional coaches come up with a set piece that carries at least a hint of threat. Answer is no because they are shit. There's nobody in our squad who can deliver a good corner 7/10 times. That's a fact.
Mick
Exactly, the most important thing about any set piece is the delivery. And our delivery is utter garbage. That's not always true, we put some good deliveries into the box on Saturday but we just can't attack anything with our heads.

I know there's bit more it, but imo it really is the delivery that counts. Better headers of the ball give more options and we of course lack that. But to have no threat at all even with the players we have is just a joke, and rank bad coaching and coaching brains.

You try different things, you go short, you whip into the near post, you try a flick on, you crowd the GK, you can try a number of things. We try nothing and havent for two seasons, it's pathetic.
