Theregulars
Another desperate decision in open contempt of fun and exciting play. Useless
Cf
Just base it off the feet in all situations. Fed up of attackers and defenders being in line with each other but it's ruled offside because they're leaning different ways.
John P
What VAR has shown is that premier league linesmen are actually pretty fucking good on the whole. The ones they don't get right are more often than not the ones we saw tonight where a tiny couple of centimetres of the attacker's body is offside. I think I'd be willing to risk some shocking decisions for the ability to celebrate goals properly again. I didn't celebrate the Willock goal tonight at all because I knew a check was coming
Theregulars
Just penalises people for having long limbs or feet, or having a head-down running style etc. it’s so relentlessly arbitrary when it’s literally supposed to not be
John P
The problem we've got now if they do get rid of VAR for offsides (won't happen, but let's imagine for a second) is that fans will now see a replay of something like Willock's goal tonight, which no one would have complained about being offside before VAR came in, and be moaning every week that VAR would have found an armpit was offside. It's completely fucked things up
Rod
23 minutes ago, Yorkie said: What, independently of VAR? The offside rule is absolutely perfect the way it is. Like almost everything in football, it wasn't designed to be applied with atomic precision. Two utterly abhorrent disallowed goals tonight in our game and the WHU/MU one. Absolutely beyond me how people think this is good for the game. I think we are agreeing. The offside rule is ridiculous. Especially when you realise why the rule was brought in. It was to stop "goal hanging". We in Gateshead would call it "goal mooching". Basically a forward just parking his arse in the oppositions box. That doesn't happen anymore so please can the football officials change the rule back to daylight between defender and attacker. Arsene Venger is desperately trying to tell the authorities that this needs to be done.

Offsides have always been the hardest thing to call in football and linesman at the top were pretty good before the nonsense. Honestly, there's nowt wrong with VAR. You can't blame VAR tonight. It's the shite offside rule. Will you not listen to me?

AyeDubbleYoo
Could try something like a sensor on the sports bra players wear so the location is constantly tracked, kind of where their centre of mass is. But would still lead to some weird offsides where the attacked isn't gaining any meaningful advantage. Edited February 10 by AyeDubbleYoo
Heron
Just make it so any contentious decisions are in Newcastle Uniteds favour. Job done. We aren't owned by trillionaires for nowt. Edited February 10 by Heron

Super Duper Branko Strupar
I remember managers kicking off about incorrect offsides and needing technology. No one was complaining about anything near these fine a margins.

It's still the humans that are getting the decisions wrong. That penalty that PSG were wrongly given. It was two fuckin stupid officials that got that wrong, not VAR. geordie_b
I’d love to know if Cucarellas massive barnet is used against him for offsides in the same way Willocks hair was tonight.

Even a perfectly functioning VAR is easily the worst thing to happen to the game in my lifetime.

Kid Icarus
VAR and offsides fall into the same category for me. People don't like them so want alternatives that imo they don't realise they'd hate even more. It's still the time it all takes for me, offsides need to be automated in real time and there's no reason it cant be. VAR is a pain in the arse and still gets things wrong, but it's better than how shockingly bad refereeing was before it. I far preferred the VAR-less way, however shit decisions were sometimes. Nothing is worth what it’s done to the best part of football - celebrations. Absolutely blows my mind that it’s been allowed to happen.

It's basically a video recording. Unless you mean, WHAT I HAVE BEEN SHOUTING ABOUT, the officials misinterpreting those video recordings. Have I not explained it very well or something? Jesus! El Prontonise
It taking 3+ minutes to get to a decision is precisely what's wrong with VAR. Make a decision and get on with the game.
