Yorkie
Nice to see my curse of 'choose a game featuring no goals, meanwhile goals are popping in for fun in all the other matches you considered' is continuing.
Disco
Why's that bizarre? Something's going wrong with football if someone who has the knack of just smashing goals in anyway within 20 yards of goal can't please people. Like a modern day Jermain BeckfordAndy Cole. ponsaelius
One of my favourite non-Newcastle players of the last 10 years tbh. Bizarre to say the least. Some of my favourite midfielders over the last 10 years include Xavi, Pirlo and Mark Noble.
Foluwashola
Love the stubbornness with Defoe. You're allowed to admit he can be a very good goalscorer on his day, while maintaining - correctly - he has obvious flaws. No-one is saying he's a world-class consistent goalscorer. He is, however, a very, very useful player to have in your squad and is overwhelmingly likely to get you goals. "Bang average" he certainly is not. Feel free to continue the bizarre anti-Defoe fetish you lads have, though. It's definitely odd like. He's a striker who gets goals when given game time. Would kill to have had him as an option over the last few years. Maintain that if he hailed from Spain the very same people would be singing his praises. Mr. Snrub
He has a knack of putting his head down and shooting every time he gets the ball. He is a good goalscorer on his day, mainly because he has about 800 shots a match. He has no awareness, can't link up play, hold up the ball or do most things a top striker can. Comparing him to Andy Cole? Not having that like.
Guest
Worst. Comparison. Ever. Defoe has 216 career club goals, the vast bulk at the highest level. EDIT: That's to the Xavi/Pirlo/Noble comment, not the Cole one. If Defoe had been 10 years earlier he'd have been in the Fowler & Cole bracket imo. Jack Flash
Darren Bent scored the winner tonight too. Haha, yeah. He did. Fulham won at home for the first time since April by punishing a wasteful Everton in the Capital One Cup. (pls don't do this tomorrow night and next monday)

Mr. Snrub
Being called Anti-Defoe for calling him average, then seeing people putting him up there with some of the best finishers the league has ever seen.
Guest
Put this era Defoe, in the predominantly English league Cole & Fowler played in and he'd have scored even more man. Brilliant striker.

Couldn't give a shit if anyone is anti-Defoe tbh. Calling him 'bang average' is just plain wrong.

SEMTEX
Defoe is a really good finisher and a decent striker. Your mid table level striker who will get himself a lot of goals but inevitably reduce the amount of goals provided by his teammates.

Cole & Fowler were superb, I think Defoe would have been in that bracket had he been playing at that time.
colinmk
Fair enough man, I just can't imagine that. On another note, Norwich go 3-2 up and I put money on them to win extra time, hold on lads!
Fugazi
I wouldn't even put Cole in the same bracket as Fowler for finishing.
Disco
Felipao still alive? Reckon Diego Costa will make the Brazil squad next summer? Potential to come up on the rails this season. Been class so far.
ponsaelius
It should be lambasted that we've gone from having Shearer, Sheringham, Cole, Ferdinand, Wright etc to pick from in international squads to the likes of Bent and Defoe, not putting the latter on a pedistal because they're some kind of throwback to the 90s (because they're apparently somehow comparable as players, really?). England's striking options these days are a joke outside of Rooney.
Dr Colossus
England's striking options in the mid-to-late-90s were ridiculous. The likes of Fowler and Sutton were scoring 15 or so a season and hardly getting a look in. Kevin Campbell has the record for most goals scored without getting a cap too. Jack Flash
Sutton 1 Le Tissier 8 Cole 15 Ferdinand 17 Fowler 26 Christ knows how many PL goals they scored between them but they were barely capped. Not sure how many of them were starts either.
Dr Colossus
Aye, I know Shearer says that Sheringham was his best partner, but he was canny good with Sutton and Ferdinand as well.
