Rich
Who's in charge of this thread? Can we have some polls or something? "Who's going to win?", "Top scorer?" or anything. Swear to god it's like working with animals here. Luca
LRD
Was announced the day of the incident that in article 22 (i think it was?) of the code of ethics or summat, a player can get a blanket ban by FIFA to cover ALL football activities, including sponsorship and media work. Could be, but I doubt FIFA would deem it serious enough to warrant a long blanket ban. A ban of a few months covering international games would be my guess. AyeDubbleYoo
It's basically not going to affect Suarez' career at all... he only bites someone about every couple of seasons, and he gets a ban of round 8 games. Massive clubs will continue to be interested in him and he'll continue to be massively successful. We basically need to just accept he's a violent racist, because football clearly doesn't give a shit about it.
Disco
Just realised I'm going probably going to miss the 5pm games today, poor planning from O'Disc.
AyeDubbleYoo
Have to hand it to Americans like, they're second to none for hype and arrogance. Obviously makes me recoil quite a bit, but I really can't imagine England chanting 'I believe that we will win' before a game like this. Has to be something in it. Hanshithispantz
It's not the arrogance that's bad, they should believe they can win tbh. It's the fact that "I believe that we can win" is, with no competition, the worst chant ever conceived.

Disco
@Scottwilsonecho 4m Sounds like it's all going on with #Gha - cash flown over on plane, Boateng and Muntari apparently thrown out of squad. Chaotic.

Disco
State of this man - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup-2014/world-cup-2014-ghana-squad-3764299 The President of Ghana Football Association has been accused of fixing future matches, with the government sending a plane to ensure the players continue A plane carrying $3MILLION in cash has been sent to the Ghana World Cup team to prevent a player revolt. According to a joint investigation by the Guardian and Channel 4 programme Dispatches, the president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantaki had agreed to fix future international matches. Police were subsequently asked to investigate, which led to calls of a revolt among Kwesi Appiah's squad, who have just one point from their World Cup matches to date. According to Bloomberg, Deputy Sports Minister Joseph Yammin told Citi FM: "The players insisted that they will want physical cash. "The government had to mobilise the money and a chartered flight to Brazil. The money is in excess of $3million." Appiah, whose side face Portugal on Thursday needing a combination of results to qualify for the last 16, said the cash was on its way to the Brazilian capital by plane. "There are some issues concerning money and the management and the government of the country are trying to sort it out and hopefully everything will be sorted out in 2-3 hours' time," he told reporters. "FIFA pays all these fees after the competition," Appiah explained. "The government of the nation has to find money to pay and then get it back from FIFA. Once there is a delay then the problems come." Midfielder Christian Atsu dismissed concerns the players would boycott the Portugal match if the money didn't arrive. "This game is very important for our nation and we have to put everything behind us," the left winger said. "It would be bad if we lost the game, people would think it because of the money. We have no option but to make our nation proud." The president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama is said to have guaranteed the money will be paid before tomorrow's must-win clash with Portugal in Recife. The GFA said: "President Mahama waded into the matter after agitation from the Black Stars players. "He personally spoke to the players to assure them the money will be paid by Wednesday afternoon. "We wish to assure the general public following President Mahama's intervention the Black Stars are in high spirits ahead of Thursday's match last Group G match against Portugal." Despite the payment, the association denied the report and insist those mentioned never made any bribe to them or Nyantaki. The Black Stars lost their opener to USA before a thrilling 2-2 draw with Germany on Saturday and now must beat Portugal tomorrow to have any chance of progressing. AyeDubbleYoo
I think up until the Germans physically abused us in 2010 we were a bit like that weren't we? I cannot really remember tbh. Can't really remember either. I know we've sometimes been accused of having high expectations, but weirdly it seems to go along with doubt over whether we can really do it. Maybe that's a recent thing.

mattypnufc
Not the first team to do it, The Germans in 74 did the same re: bonus. Two players ended up being sent home and the manager threatened to walk due to players demands.

YankeeToon
Paving the way for a Portugal rout. Makes our GD against Germany crucial unless we can somehow pull off a draw. Ghana sending us out again, indirectly?

SEMTEX
It's not the arrogance that's bad, they should believe they can win tbh. It's the fact that "I believe that we can win" is, with no competition, the worst chant ever conceived. True, but it demonstrates something. English people are far too self-conscious to really believe they can upset the odds. a) the chant is a direct Landon quote, off the back of Klinsmann saying they can't win the World Cup. It's not great but at least it has some background b) their so called second to none levels of arrogance is aka confidence/belief, and it's an absolutely massive reason why the still have a great chance of qualifying for the next round, despite being in a very difficult group. England will continue achieving absolutely fuck all while they persist with their delightfully charming crippling self-consciousness.
