Honestly man, they're so insufferable.

They really think these huge salaries have nothing to do with why players go there.

It's all down to "aura", "pull" and "heritage".

Absolutely shameless.

Nobody said good wages aren't a factor. It's just not the only factor, which is what you're trying to suggest.

That was surprisingly easy to bait someone into using Capology.

Didn't expect it to be you.

£150,000 on Lloyd Kelly man.

I'm sure that's what it was. Nice attempted pivot from the bullshit sources eh.

Yeah most of those are wrong, and I'm fairly sure that image is pulled from The Sun of all places.

This is point we're trying to make. Opposition fans are pulling stats from the most bullshit of sources and try and pass it off as fact. You've just done the same thing and reinforced the point.

You and many others on here (not everyone though to be fair) are suggesting that the only way Mbeumo/Cunha or any other player could possibly pick Man United over Newcastle is the wages. It's just not true though is it?

no, it’s definitely not true. Man Utd are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the opportunity to be part of the squad that turns things around for them is absolutely huge. Players will always be attracted to Man Utd, more so than us. That’s just a fact.

But, it’s also true to say you pay silly wages to players and that’s part of the reason you’re where you are.

There's barely any difference

Not many on that list I'd have at Newcastle

It's exactly what it was. You've openly stated Capology is bullshit when I've used it in the past as a reference, and you've just used it on me.

Didn't realise your third choice keeper is on more money than Garnacho and Dorgu.

Newcastle offered a backup defender wages that would have made him Man United's 6th highest paid player.

But that ended up being one of the smartest pieces of business we’ve ever done.

Agreed.

I don't think £180-200k for Cunha and Mbeumo is silly, but yes we've absolutely paid silly wages in the past and the contracts for Casemiro, Rashford, Antony, Mount etc. are ridiculous. I believe we're trying to fix that.

Lucky enough. Big wage all the same. More than most of our squad.

There's a suggestion that Newcastle are out here working with pennies when you're paying £100,000 a week for backup keepers.

Patrick Dorgu has a terrible agent.

He was a young player at Lecce.

He was likely on around £2,000 a week there.

It's okay, we all get things wrong from time to time. There's no need to try and deflect.

What have I got wrong?

It's got so low that people are sharing images from The Sun which is just adding £25k on top of wages for no reason except to make it look worse than what it is. Doesn't include the well documented 25% CL clause, includes players who are still out loan with full salary coverage, includes players that haven't even signed yet.

Then someone tries to counter that by sharing Capology, which I have been slated for. A resource that shows you pay your backup full backs double what we pay our starting ones. A resource that shows you paid a backup defender £150,000 a week. A resource that shows you pay £100,000 in backup keepers.

I'm getting dragged into this with you, which is annoying. You know a lot (not all) of players would choose Man United over Newcastle regardless of wages, or at least I hope you know that. KaKa doesn't seem to believe it, instead acting like the club has no pull or prestige anymore because we finished 15th (albeit with a European final to contend).

Well @Froggy keeps telling us their owners are worse than Mike Ashley.

So who the hell goes there expecting any sort of turnaround anytime soon.

They are a mess on and off the pitch at the minute and their project is very much up in the air.

I'm not buying this "opportunity to turn things around, biggest club" nonsense man.

It's ridiculous.

Was kind of thinking you'd need to be loitering around the top 8 or so by then. Long summer ahead as well so maybe too early to say.

Don't know what your thoughts are or whether that'll be enough.  Edit, as a minimum or whether that's a fast enough improvement, no idea what the expectations are.

I feel like there’s a huge amount riding on the fixture lists this year. It’s clear that a favourable start makes a solid difference to your season, but with two big names possibly in ejector seats this season (Ange and Amorim at least) it could mean the difference between staying and sacking over the first couple of months.

The Glazers I believe were worse than Ashley. We don't need to get into that though. It's a sore point for all of us so no need to rehash it.

Berrada and Wilcox are in control of the sporting side now, and I trust them to turn it around.

Being part of the team to turn it around is obviously a huge appeal though KaKa. Do you not realise how Mbeumo/Cunha etc. would be treated if they banged in 20 goals and shot us up the table next season? Like Gods.

All things being equal I doubt you sign these players.

Cunha had some character concerns that put other clubs off and certainly would have had them uneasy about handing him a big contract.

Mbeumo as good a season as he's had, is a bit over priced because of it, and clubs are again unlikely to be offering him the wage you have, as his typical production prior to this season doesn't really warrant it.

Both good players, and you've pushed the boat out in order to land the pair of them, and take a gamble that they justify the fees and wages, and it all pays off.

Just own it man, and quit with the romanticism.

I think with the expected signings, a full pre-season and no European football, they will be a surprise this coming season

All things equal we win the race 9/10 times. Although I assume you mean equal with just wages.

It's not romanticism. We are still a big draw, especially for players in their mid 20's. They likely grew up with us dominating.

If we had another 10 years like the last 10 then the appeal will have diminished even further, but as of now there are still few clubs with a bigger draw.

If players like Mbeumo didn't want to come to us, I don't think swapping 30k extra a week for playing CL football would be that much of a sacrifice.

This is the thing. What's a surprising season for you?

Even if we finished 2nd people would say, "Well look at their team and wages. This is the minimum they should be getting."

Outside of winning the title I don't think there will be any praise coming our way next season.
