Squad & tactics (2024/25)

Haven't watched all the way through but I'm not sure I agree with the premise at the start. Because some other teams that have done well early and fallen away, that doesn't mean we were going to. Maybe those teams just weren't as good or well-managed, or they had easy fixtures etc.

I'll watch the second half though.

We've got  fuck all depth and we need 6 or 7 in this summer

Or we've been fucking brilliant, why change much?

Next season's ideal squad.

GKs

Pope, Dubravka, Karius

RBs

Trippier, Krafth, Ashby

LBs

NEW SIGNING, Targett

LCBs

Botman, Burn

RCBs

Schar, NEW SIGNING

Creative midfielders

Bruno, NEW SIGNING

Other CMs

Joelinton, Longstaff, Willock, NEW SIGNING

LW

NEW SIGNING, Gordon

RW

NEW SIGNING, Almiron, Murphy

CF

Isak, Wilson

OUT

St-Maximin

Lascelles

Darlow

Gillespie

Manquillo

Dummett

Lewis

Ritchie

Fraser

Hayden

Hendrick

LOANS

Anderson

Miley

Kuol

Could keep St-Maximin and that means one less signing we need. Could also keep Lascelles another year if we feel Schar is good enough to be first-choice again. I've put a right-winger but I think Howe will go with Almiron and Murphy again.

So I reckon we'll get 4-5 signings.

First choice left-back

Cover for Bruno

First-choice CM

Left and/or right winger depending on what we do with Maxi, Murphy and Almiron

Centre-back if Lascelles goes.

Theres no way we can do the whole season in 4 competitions playing Tue/Wed every week with two strikers man @Optimistic Nut (bit rop optimistic you could say), probably need 4 strikers.

Id also say thanks for your service and peddle Murphy, dont think he's a top half PL player.

I thought Karius was already confirmed as going so would need a new backup/third choice keeper unless Darlow/Gillespie are happy to stay. Would Gillespie class as home grown for the club btw?

Would also let Almiron go if we got a decent offer for him

Id send Ashby on a 6 month loan as unlikely he will play apart from maybe FAC or LC as he will be 3rd choice RB.

There's a good chance that an inside left or right will be able to play up front if need be. Getting a 3rd quality striker literally happy just to play the odd game is going to be hard. Far more likely an Ekitike (not him but that sort of profile).

Gillespie isn't HG.

He's local you sure he wasn't here as a kid before leaving? If not I'd try for krul or Forster. I'm sure krul would come back for a year or two.

He was but left at 16. UEFA's HG rules are based around being at a club for at least three years between 15 and 21.

Gillespie is home grown (can name up to 8 of these) but not club trained (can name up to 4 of these)

Yeah obviously he's HG as he was at Carlisle. But we're fine on that (and will likely remain as such) - it's the club grown players we're short on.

Yeah, it makes sense why Howe probably wants Dummett to stay because otherwise we'd be short by 2 in that department

Krul/Forster as 3rd choice covers one

Can't think of anyone else we can get that's decent enough to contribute

Only need four hg players Anderson Dummett longy and krul/Forster.

Nah he's very poor. Would be a downgrade on Fraser even.

Did we sign Kuol in time to qualify as home grown for when he's been here 3 years?
