That is one grim squad! Most them as Irish as I am too.

Well no 16 of them were born on Ireland so not most

 It's hilarious how desperate they are. Robbie Keane > England anyway.  Just a shame they got a cake group and we got the group of death.

And of the 7 born outside Ireland McGeady, McCarthy and Clark chose Ireland when they had a feasible different choice they could make. You might laugh at Clark but when he declared for Ireland at the age of 20 he had captained England at u18,u19 and u20 level in the previous few years and was very highly rated

The 2016 European Championship could be a target for terror attacks, the U.S. State Department (DOS) has warned.

An eight-page document concluded that an incident is more likely to take place at an "entertainment venue" such as a restaurant, rather than at a stadium.

One hundred and 30 people were killed in November following a series of co-ordinated militant attacks in Paris. Three suicide bombers struck near the Stade de France where the French national team were hosting Germany in a friendly.

France, which will host this summer's tournament, is already under a state of emergency following last year's attacks.

Euro 2016 gets underway on June 10 and the report, compiled by America's Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), said: "The influx of visitors to France during the summer months, especially during the Euro Cup, will create an especially target-rich environment for threat actors wishing to attack soft target locations with maximum impact.

"While Euro Cup fan zones will possibly be more vulnerable, the level of security that will be enacted around these areas will to some degree mitigate the vulnerability against these sites.

"Consequently, terrorist plots aimed at disrupting the Euro Cup may be directed against soft-target locations outside of the Euro Cup venues and fan zones.

"Locations such as entertainment venues, which are likely to be filled with fans watching games; restaurants; and other public gathering points could be seen as more accessible targets."

The document assessing the security threat at this summer's tournament also singled out England's opening match as one that could be disrupted by fan trouble.

England begin their campaign with a night game against Russia at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille on June 11. The report cited a "history of violence" in matches played between England and Group D opponents Russia as a factor that could lead to unrest.

The two nations have met twice, in European Championship qualifiers in London and Moscow in 2007, and there were violent clashes around the game in the Russian capital.

"While violent crime is generally low in France, the combination of alcohol and competing fans during high-stakes matches could lead to tensions that could spill over into confrontation and violence," the report said.

"Fan unrest may be more likely during matches that feature teams with a history of tensions.

"Euro 2016's first round features one such match, with England playing Russia on June 11 in Marseille; there is a history of violence associated with recent matches between these two sides. England fans also rioted after a World Cup 1998 match against Tunisia, also played in Marseille.

"As a remedy, some countries temporarily revoke passports for fans with a history of hooliganism abroad, as England did for some 3,000 fans during the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, and nearly 1,500 during the 2014 World Cup. The number for Euro 2016 is reportedly only in the low hundreds at this time."

Courtois, Alderweireld, Verthongen, Dembele, Nainggolan, Hazard, De Bruyne, Lukaku might have something to do with it

Lukaku scored 3 goals since December. Hazard has 4 goals and 3 assists all season. They have good players dont get me wrong but a good GK, 2 defenders and some hit & miss attacking players don't make them this incredible squad people seem to think they are

                  Courtois

RB  Vermaelan  Alderwield  Vertonghen

        Dembele  Nainggolan

  Carrasco  De Bruyne    Hazard

                    Origi

That's a pretty cool XI tbf. On paper, which counts for little, but still.

Origi was in good nick so I'd start him ahead of Lukaku. Similarly Hazard seemed arsed tail end of last season. Not sure who they'll play at RB, but assume Alderwield will move into the centre to replace Kompany.

Hazard will probably give a fuck when Belgium play though, De Bruyne isn't hit and miss. Lukaku was playing in a poor team. Origi is also decent. Even forgot about Carrasco, he's class. Lack of full backs will probably be their major problem.

Has Wilmots improved as a manager since the World Cup? I remember they were incredibly boring to watch in those games and he looked like he was holding them back quite significantly

Nope, he's the main reason why they'll always fail. Bang average coach.

Love how it always gets a reaction

Literally. How can England be 'desperate' in comparison to ROI when most of the squad are a) decent players b) born in the country? Robbie Keane tho

Hope Northern Ireland do well though, I wonder how long they can keep their unbeaten run going. Considering they're such a small country, and have players nicked from them by their cousins, O'Neill's done a superb job. I think they've got a good chance of getting through to the knockout stages.

Quite a few of Nothern Ireland's players were born in England too like, one was born in Canada. Hypocrisy.

England may well have decent players but they're fucking shite like. I reckon this is the best they'll do in an International tournament for a while though.

Cyrus Christie Irish!? I ain't having that! Joke how someone who isn't born in that country or who they and there parents have never even been to that country is eligible to play for them, should be where your born or if you spent a decent part of your childhood living there.

Not my great grandmas best friend was half Irish bollocks

Seems a good egg Michael O'Neill. His 'big interview' podcast with Graham Hunter is worth a listen if you're that way inclined. Mag too.
