Worst Newcastle XI?

Recommended Posts

I also don't think Cacapa was half as bad as made out either. Was good upto the Pompey game, then I'm sure his first game back after that was a crappy 1-0 at Fulham (the one with Allardyce and the poncy run across the pitch) and he was one of our best players.

Georgiadis scored an important goal in our '99 cup run, so he maybe gets a pass. There's frankly loads of midfield shite to pick from.

It was 4-1 and Ketsbaia won the game on his own. Georgiadis' goal was probably the least important goal by anyone ever, stupid Ron. Call the burns unit.

Well no, we were drawing 1-1 in a tight game and he made it 2-1, subsequently we scored twice more to win 4-1. Shit player but that contribution alone makes him better than some.

There have been far too many lousy players at SJP from the late 70s onwards to start trying to name a worst of all 11...easier to think of some of the worst individuals. In defence, take a bow both Glen Keeley and John Bird, both specialists at providing spectacular OGs..Bird's best was a thunderous effort from 20 yards which left his own keeper(I THINK it was Mick Mahoney)grasping at thin air in a game against Man U at SJP...Keeley scored a magnificent header, again past Mahoney, at Ayresome Park against Middlesbrough which fortunately, our two class young FBs, Nattrass and Kennedy managed to cancel out in a 3-3 drawn 1976.

Then, up front, my own personal Centre Forward genius - Rob McDonald who arrived on an undisclosed(i.e.small or FT)fee from Sparta Rotterdam in 1980. What made it all so tragic was that the stunning goals and excitement given by his namesake over 4 years' previously were still fresh in the memory.

I don't think Rob scored a single goal - or even looked like doing so - in the whole time he was at SJP.

We only needed to have Pardew as manager to make life perfect...!

There have been many, many more and people who think Owen was bad haven't lived...

Wasn't Rob McDonald in the late 80s? Remember watching him "play" as a kid. Frank Pingel was bad although his mate Benny Kristensen was alright.

McDonald was around 88/89 I think.

There was also Gazza's mate who signed on loan from Spurs around the same time as McDonald. He'll be discounted due to only playing 3 games but he was easily the worst player I've ever seen play at St James' and that's including opposition players. He looked like Gazza had just pulled him off a Sunday league pitch and told us he had played for Spurs.

Worst keeper is Hooper by a mile.

Paul Moran I believe. What was that Aussie we had on loan? Dave Mitchell? Nowt flash to say the least.

Couldn't put Cacapa in, it's just not really fair tbh. He didn't play enough, did have a couple of good matches, had previously been a good defender and was just a bit too old to be starting over here. Let down by age, not quality imo. Felt sorry for him after the Portsmouth match tbh.

Yeah Paul Moran. I meant to put that in earlier. Utterly clueless. Dave mitchell, remember the name but can't picture him or the year.

I also vaguely remember someone called Gavin Macguire around the same time, think he was only sub???

Also some additions: Frank Doumas, David Beherall, Garry Brady, Xisco, Carl Serrant, Gonzalez, Paul Dalglish.

Saying that though y'know. Looking back, Hooper was bad, really really bad. And at the time it was obvious. In hindsight though Srnicek was fucking useless as well. I thought he was class when I was a kid.
