Remember when footy shirts were sponsored by Carlsberg, Sharp and Dreamcast?  I feel like 90% of the products on the front of Premier League shirts I've never heard of and couldn't buy if I wanted to.  Even the gambling companies I'm not even sure if they operate here. I certainly haven't seen Knox energy drinks on the shelves.

Edit: They've clearly not spent as much on Search Engine Optimisation as they have on our sponsorship deal

Isn't that the ideal use case for this kind of sponsorship though?  Your company is fairly new and has very little brand or name recognition in the market so you get the name and logo somewhere it's going to be widely seen?  I thought that's what this kind of advertising was for, Audi and companies like that certainly don't need to get there name out there so much.

I still dont really understand what the big companies actually get out of sponsorship. Audi just as example...you'd have to be living in a total back water not to know of them, and im not going to go buy an audi because its on a football teams shirt.

It isn’t there to introduce people to a product it’s there to push that product constantly up to the front of people’s mind.

average person watching the tv seeing Leeds play every shot is of red bull hoping the person will fancy a red bull.

I get the idea...but looking at a Leeds shirt isnt going to make me buy a Redbull. Id love to buy a Camaro, but seeing Chevrolet on a Man U shirt isnt going to to going to make be go and get a Matiz just as its Chevrolet

Maybe not aimed at you then but it obviously works.

I’d never drank carabao in my life but I bought some leading up to the final mainly to wind up my co workers. That’s sales carabao wouldn’t have got had they not sponsored the league cup. That’s a very small example

the banning of alcohol and betting sponsors clearly shows it has some impact on people’s brain

Getting banned is it not? That’s why the rumour was gonna be Guineas zero to get around it

Edit: looks like there is no official ban but it’s becoming less and less

It's a shame because they were absolutely the best sponsors to have.

The blue star goes without saying, Carlsberg with Liverpool, Guinness for QPR, Holsten for Tottenham, Coors for Chelsea and McWeans for Rangers all looked good.
