A classic case of if you don’t want it, don’t buy it. Plenty of people will and plenty of people won’t. It’s not mandatory.

This.

I also think it will be difficult if not impossible to make them the exact same one these days. Machines will be different, even materials will be different.

If you are walking down the street with it on, no one will notice any of the difference.

If you are getting it put in a museum, then obviously someone with a magnifying glass is going to be able to spot it straight away.

What's this in response to? It's not really a counter argument to any gripes about the scandalous price of this and other shirts.

I kinda wish people would take a stand on it tbh.

think it’s natural for people to want to know what the material and fit of it is like before dropping £90+ on it

The price is shocking. I believe it’s the most expensive of any of adidas remakes with Argentina being £85. Adidas are taking the piss because they know it’ll sell. They know how popular the original was

Kind of makes you wonder why they never tried to release it or do designs inspired by it before Ashley fucked them off.

Yeah, I’m one of them to be honest, but people are zooming in on the authenticity badge trying to find the blue outline being slightly thicker than the original etc.

The fact is, there are plenty of photos of originals out there to show that even back then, there were minor variations in batches.

Because Adidas wasn't our shirt sponser then?

We released "retro remakes" under Ashley, but without the Adidas logo and all the other Copyrighted Adidas stuff.

The original in 95 was circa £40 iirc. 30 years of inflation have pretty much doubled the price of just about everything so £90 in 2025 isn't that far away from lots of other goods. I know it's just a heap of polyester at the end of the day but the price tracks well to 30 years ago tbh. If people want it then they'll get it, if they don't then they'll leave it alone

£90 is a perfectly fine price if it was a genuine 1:1 remake. it doesn’t look like it is at all though, which is a total piss take.

stick to DH for low quality retro replicas. probably coming from the same factory

Retro interest comes in 30 year cycles when the generation that "grew up" with something has gotten kids of their own and want their kids to experience what they liked when they were young. It'd have been too close to do a revival/reboot at the time from a sales/marketing perspective.

Tenner more for a premium product? It's not ridiculous imo.

I'll not be buying it btw, I've got the original and don't need or want another one so it's a bit moot for me. I'm just saying the price of everything has just about doubled in the last 30 years naturally and although £90 is high for a football shirt, so is £6 for a pint, so is £12 for a cinema ticket, £3 for a coffee  and so on. Things just get more expensive naturally

tbf I think that 95/96 would be popular at any time. It’s an all time classic. Also score draw had remade it about 10 years ago too

You are right of course. Though I would say I’d only pay £3 or less for an occasional pint. £5 for the cinema and £1 for a coffee by shopping around.

Its an item that lets be honest possibly have more money than sense like most official football related gear

You pays your money and you takes your choice…

That’s a fair point but like I say apparently of all the remakes Newcastle’s is more expensive. You are right tho everything is a lot more expensive

It's a premium product that's probably targeted at the generation who were just a bit too young to have it when the originals came out. Expensive enough to make a killing but not too expensive to put it out of reach. If people want it then they'll get it

Premium product as I say. They've built up the demand for it with the advertising of it and now they'll want to earn it all back. Pricing it just a bit over what you'd expect it to be and hope people shell out anyway, they're not daft

I went years without buying kits etc under the previous ownership so I see it as spending the money I've saved over the years.

Same. I never bought a Wonga shirt. Barely got any after that, usually bought in the sales, and from other outlets such as that sports shop on Market Street.

People should be able to do whatever they want with their money, buy the kit, don't buy the kit, etc. the base line thought here is the club are doing better in merchandising, there are a ton more B&W kitted up, Toon badged up people out there now than before and for that, we should just enjoy that.

One part of the club that is truly excelling. Merchandising bunch have smashed it this season.

Soon the other departments will catch up.

Of course, people can do whatever they like, especially if they can afford to. But we can't expect the quality (ultimately the value) of these things to improve at all as long as people keep stumping up.

I obviously appreciate the uptick in our commercial performance but at the same time I lament the piss-take prices, particularly given the shoddy quality in Adidas' case. It's a contradiction tbh.
