Mike
"Today's announcement should send a message that enough is enough," said Kelly Currie, acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. "After decades of what the indictment alleges to be brazen corruption, organized international soccer needs a new start. "Let me be clear: This indictment is not the final chapter in our investigation." How can they still call it soccer, they are investigating the Fédération Internationale de Football Association FFS Unless it's called FISA now It's annoying like, and also make zero sense. BillClinton
From David Conn on Twitter: @david_conn: FIFA: FBI Director James Comey "If you touch our shores with your corrupt enterprise you will be held accountable." This is really happening I'm assuming James Comey said that with a huge dose of irony or he was constantly suppressing a smirk. You know what the problem is? The problem is those goddam foreigners stealing our goddam corruption. There are plenty of hard working Americans who would love nothing more than to engage in corruption, but Obama keeps leaving the door open to foreign corruption. #toolittletoolate

Tsunami
Rugby's called football as well really. But that does have a history behind it when the spoilt toff picked the football up and ran off. I've now idea how the Yanks get football from it. Did a Pilgrim do something similar and why isn't Basketball Basketfootball as there is a net. They're all (association football, rugby union and league, Australian rules football, and American football) derivatives of English school games, and (i) players of different variations of the rules started branching off with formal written rules in the early 1800s or so; or (ii) the games started developing in parallel due to emigration and colonization. B-more Mag
For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know of as “Football”. In fact, in the early days of the sport among the upper echelons of British society, the proper term for the sport was “Soccer”. Not only that, but the sport being referred to as “Soccer” preceded the first recorded instance of it being called by the singular word “Football” by about 18 years, with the latter happening when it became more popular with the middle and lower class. When that happened, the term “Football” gradually began dominating over “Soccer” and the then official name “Association Football”. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/06/the-origin-of-the-word-soccer/
