Wonder if Rob Elliot has done his badges or anything. Might be better for an internal appointment, doubt there's many at the level and budget Gateshead operate in that can play the way they do.

Any South Shields watchers follow them under Kevin Phillips? He might be a shout but no idea on his style of football.

Fuck naaaaaaw, that's a shitter but absolutely demonstrates Gateshead's sheer lack of ambition.

They'll lose Dinanga, Booty, Francis & Wearne at the end of the season and be back to square one.

Can they do anything about this situation? It's step up for Iron Mike, no?

Big blow for them but an opportunity he cant really turn down at the end of the day. Big appointment coming up for Gateshead, dont envy them finding someone to try and keep the momentum going. Sure a lot of Shields fans werent too happy with Phillips mind, didnt really play good football.

Not now, no. But it might have helped to minimise the attrition from season to season over the last 5 years though. Additionally it feels like there's a bit of a disconnect between the owner and the fans, who seem to detest each other.

A team on the slide in L2 shouldn't be that much of a step-up from a team on the rise in the National League, but in this situation it is.

It's a huge step up for him really. MK Dons have a 30,000 seater stadium and as recently as 2016 were playing in the Championship averaging over 13k crowds.

Gateshead will forever be hampered by being so close to Newcastle amd playing in that hideous athletics stadium with only 1 stand open unless there's a big away following. They'll never be able to pull the punters in to enable them to be a sustainable Football League club. I think the Conference is definitely their ceiling.

They used to do discounts for NUFC season-ticket holders once upon a time I'm sure.

They could do something like knock a few quid off tickets for NUFC members, even if it's just another 50 people through the gates per match it'd be worth it, especially with tickets so hard to come by at Newcastle and people still looking for a football fix.

They got slated by their fans because they did the same for Sunderland season ticket holders, and their fans argued that Newcastle and Sunderland fans could get in cheaper than their own fans could.

They're pretty much well set up in terms of infrastructure and support to be a National League side now.

Pushing up into the EFL will be harder without him around though you'd imagine.

The setup is great to be fair, from the first team to girls and kids its all been improved and going well. Nice new stand and very well run outside of matchdays with parties, meals etc. The traffic issue will be a massive problem should they ever get that high and look into further expansion you would assume, the new neighbours already going mad at parking and getting out on matchdays as it is. That whole estate is a disaster getting out of in rush hour let alone match days with only one road through it so more people would be fun. Was talk of buying the factory behind the goal, would give another decent stand and plenty parking but the main stand side could struggle to improve with the metro line/necessary matchday facilities being there. Guess thats a long way down the line now mind

They will probably have to manage traffic and parking significantly going forward if they're looking at attendances going up further. It's very well served by the Metro station so is hardly a terrible location for a football stadium if managed.

Problem is a lot of fans are in sunderland/Boldon etc so need to change metros there and back or mix bus/metros so a fair few just drive and use the industrial estate or low sima estate neither of which are designed for any sort of traffic. Will definitely need better bus services too with a small space in Newcastle Road bus stop in front of McDonalds and nigh on nowt the other side on Jarra Road for people to use. Not sure how the escape that situation other than some form of park and ride scheme which just adds another parking issue elsewhere as cant think of anywhere to dump that. I know a few ST holders near me that just walk the 2 miles or so then have a few in Tams Bar after til it dies down but they are getting on a bit now. Probably should have went with Temple Park idea years ago in hindsight but who knows if any new owner has that appetite to progress sufficiently

Just noticed on their website them saying he's got the job for an unspecified period of time and aren't taking applications. Looks like it's Elliot's to lose. Might be their best chance of continuing what Williamson has done tbf.

Gateshead travelling to Yeovil in R2. Great chance to progress again.

My two local sides - York and Scarborough - travelling to Chester and hosting Forest Green... should they make it through their respective replays. So chances there as well.

Bloody York couldn't score at home to Needham Market ffs.

Both made it, as well as Whitby who have a match against Bristol Rovers.

Interview with Rob Elliot saying he wants the job. Think unless he completely fucks things up the next month, he'll get it and be better to try and continue what Williamson was doing from within, than another manager just making Gateshead one of the rest again.

North Shields dumped out of the NSC last night - losing 2-1 at home to West Allotment.

Mate was there. He's a season ticket holder but had to pay 8 quid to get in. Everywhere else was between £3 and £6. Its not even 8 quid for the final! Said it was grim. Announced the crowd as 155. Said it looked less.
