Miguel Almirón (now playing for Atlanta United)

Recommended Posts

Think he needs to be taken out of the side for his own sake, his head is clearly gone, he almost stuck the ball into his own net under zero pressure yesterday. Couldn't think of a worse own goal had he succeeded.

Problem is we're in a funk at the minute. Parts of the side that used to operate like a well oiled machine have broken down due to players been injured, not 100% or out of form. The axis of Trippier, Longstaff and Almiron has particularly suffered and has only served to highlight the technical flaws in Almiron and Longstaff. Biggest priority is getting Trippier back on form but having somebody in front of him who's a liability on the ball isn't going to help.

Two examples from first half yesterday bear that out. First one is Almiron having the ball on the right with Trippier overlapping. A simple pass would put Trippier in an excellent position to get his head up and pick out a man. The type of scenario that we were profiting off early in the season. Could've led to a much needed assist for Trippier, 2-0 and a different game. Almiron contrives to overhit the pass, Trippier can only dig out a cross on the stretch and the chance is gone.

The other one is the first Forrest goal where Trippier is left completely exposed defensively by Almiron playing the perfect pass to launch a Forrest counter attack.

We've seen before as well how poor form can really hang over Miggy with some of his goal droughts. The sooner he's taken out of the side the better as it's likely to get worse.

His pressing and enthusiasm is great. His decision making is poor and his shooting is predictable. More importantly, a top 6 side shouldn’t be playing a wide player where the opposition know that all they need to do is show him the line and he’ll turn around and play a simple ball back or inside looking for a wall pass down the line, inside the full back.

There’s levels of being one footed, I’ve never seen a pro seemingly afraid of using their weaker foot. Until now.

Generally our team is hard working rather than high talent. When the team is no longer able to work hard it shows. An exhausted Almiron, offers less than a fresh almiron and a fresh Almiron doesn't offer loads. It's his inability to impact on the final third that lets him down. Beyond that he is a fantastic player to have. I actually think he could be kept as a CL squad player.

Harvey Barnes: Newcastle star could afford Miguel Almiron a rest

Though generally operating on the opposite side to Miguel Almiron, a return for Barnes could offer his teammate a rest.

Almiron has hardly convinced in recent weeks, with frustrations said to have boiled overduring the Boxing Day defeat to Nottingham Forest when a member of staff reportedly punched the dugout when watching the forward avoid using his right foot. [emoji38]

The fucker has had the ball in such great positions and he’s fluffed and skied the ball over way too many times. Point blank chances to shoot with his right and he cuts back and chance is gone.

Was I just imagining it as I was pretty hungover at the match on Tuesday, but did he come close to scoring the most bizarre of own goals in the second half?

He did [emoji38]

In fairness I think the ball was going out for a corner when you see the angle from behind the goal but the way he's been playing you'd have every reason to expect the ball to end up in the net

No fairness about it, you don’t kick the ball towards your goal when needing to clear a cross [emoji38]

The groan in the first half where he could have hit it across goal with his right foot first time, but cut back instead to get it onto his left, that collective groan was something else.

The steadfast refusal to use the right foot is genuinely incomprehensible. Like it’s at the point where he needs to talk to a psychologist about it.

When I was a kid I used to belt the ball against the wall with my weaker left foot. Within a week of doing that I started to shoot, cross and even intercept using my left foot...and I turned out to be shite.

Why the FUCK are Howe and the training staff not making him improve his weak foot?

Take a fucking training session and make him hit every cunt with it instead of making him run around cones and shit

I'd say the Barnes comeback is a bit hazy. they decided not to operate and let the foot heal on it's own, then as soon as he tried comeback he felt pain, so theyve decided to try the same thing again without an operation which doesn't fill me with hope. We will get to the end of Jan and they will say needs an operation then out for the season

Tell that  to every defender who has put through his own net!!!

He intentionally kicked it that way while not under pressure, all because he is shit scared of his own right foot. [emoji38] It was absolutely ludicrous.
