500bhp
Those of us who have worked for big corporates have seen this type of thing before. Give someone a promotion or big payrise just before the redundancies or sackings happen, usually due to a takeover. They walk away with a much bigger payout. The Prophet
Change of title as opposed to an promotion: "Andy Howe’s title within Newcastle’s recruitment setup has changed. The 31-year-old, who is the manager's nephew, is now a senior football executive, having been the club’s assistant head of first-team recruitment. However, Howe’s role remains the same and the tweaking of titles is more to do with sporting director Ross Wilson tidying up the structure within St James’ Park." Bunk Moreland
From Waugh: "The Canadian [Hopkinson] also trailed imminent new senior management announcements, saying the club had hired a new chief revenue officer (CRO) and a new chief marketing officer (CMO). Hopkinson claimed Newcastle have recruited a “superstar” for the CMO role, while The Athletic has learned that Dave O’Connor will start as CRO in June. A Geordie who has built an agency in Switzerland, Newcastle view luring O’Connor home as a coup. “We’ll be making these two announcements in the coming days,” Hopkinson said. “A superstar, an international. He’s going to focus on our digital growth. We cannot achieve all that ambition on Newcastle’s local market opportunity. We’ve got to go global.” These new hires will be crucial in helping Hopkinson further pump-prime Newcastle’s revenue streams, as he looks to deliver his ambitious “Vision 2030” blueprint. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7240140/2026/04/29/newcastle-chairman-talks-eddie-howe-hopkinson/

Not sure why I care tbh.

High Five o
Just now, Lush Vlad said: If Howe stays. Surely the club will be looking to replace the utterly useless set piece coach and perhaps also look to freshen up the coaching staff in general? I really hope if Howe stays he also can see that he need some new input and fresh ideas. If he do not see and by himself initiate this I am afraid he also do not see the issue we are facing. I hope he gets it right.

As I thought it was probably the wrong place for it in here.

We’ve never felt like we’ve taken the idea of being actually elite seriously.
