Quite irrelevant given Botman looked slow, cumbersome and fucked by the end. He could have been rotated for Schar. Theres one.

I also mentioned the midfield too, which cant keep a hold of the ball. Could Miley and/or Ramsay not have been rotated keeping Bruno or Tonali fresh for Sunday. Both certainly werent at their best.

My point being that we dont seem particularly keen on utilising our squad. Probably because Howe doesnt feel like the other players can execute his gameplan as well, but thats not really sustainable is it.

I’m not fussed about ‘rotating’ CBs.

Midfield the issue for me is we lack quality. Mileys a kid. Ramsey I’m not sure he’s an improvement on Big Joe.  I agree we needed someone to be able to come in and play at a high level.  Likewise wingers we lack quality.

So just forest in nearly 2 years?

That appears so. :anguish:

It feels like we’ve been pretty poor away from SJP since 2022-23 tbh. That season we competed and created in every single match. Hasn’t felt like that since.

I thought last season was one of our most successful on the road ever, or something?

Quick gewgle and it’s actually our joint second best season for wins. Harsh, recency bias from me. Will give that an edit. But we did however fail to win against any of the top 12 aside from Forest last season and scarcely played well from memory. The record against decent sides that TRC posted is really poor, though.

2001-02 and 1993-94 (21 games) are our best seasons away from home in the PL.

There’s been too much blame put on the defence. Botman in particular.

Any back line where their midfield just lets players run right through them is going to be constantly under pressure and mistakes will be inevitable at some point in a game.

We can point to Burn being a fish out of water but it worked just fine 2 seasons ago because as a whole the team was more compact. Younger too yes, but I don’t think that’s the issue, aside from maybe Trippier.

It’s the setup and organisation of the team that’s totally disjointed. It’s making decent players look like shit. It’s not their fault.

All roads lead to one place.

22/23 was better than both of those. 32 points from 19 games. +13 goal difference. We were absolutely ruthless.

Hard to know what he needs to do.

He needs to be more proactive, but at the same time it seems when he does make a choice/change it doesn't work out or full on backfires. As a manager he is as much out of form as the players are.

Also needs to shit or get off the pot with a few players.

Can't work out what this means and how the answer isn't just our actual position of 5th.

I'm just looking at how our away form was last season compared to the rest of the league, we were 2 points off 4th so it was actually a lot better than I expected.

Ahh I get you. The home bit threw me.

Yeah, our away form felt okay last season tbh, particularly when you include cups.

For some reason I thought it was worse than that, maybe because I remembering the games against the better sides in the league.

Yeah when our form picked up in general it was very "who we should be beating" away form I think. Saying that I think we were unlucky against Brighton and Arsenal at the end and probably would have won with a striker who wasn't trying to stop us getting in the CL.

It worked three seasons ago. Burn was pretty poor at left back during the last champions league season, the same concerns were being raised then that are being raised now and people were clamouring for Hall to be given a chance (it ended up with Tino playing there).

Having two full backs that struggle to overlap is a huge tactical problem for us. It completely kills our left hand side in particular since Barnes and Gordon need that foil to be able to cut inside.

Having full backs that can get up and down allows you to control the game much more effectively, we have arguably the least dynamic pair in the league at the moment and it's really no surprise to me that we're suffering at both ends of the pitch as a result.

We had a run around december-january where we won 7 out of 8 in the league, winning 4 away games. The rat scored 11 goals and had 3 assists in those 8 games. I think we beat every bottom 7 team away from home. Forest was the only win from the top 13 teams.

I miss our 22/23 team, man. That ruthless pressing + absurdly stout defense.

In spite of finally getting silverware last season, 22-23 is by far my most enjoyable season following us. Think it'll be my generation's 93-94. We were well in every single match (apart from Villa away) home and away, seemed to play well 9 games out of 10 and I reckon most of my favourite matches that I've attended are from that season. No ballot and ID horse shite either.

There’s something about riding a wave upwards after being mired in shit for over a decade that can’t be beaten. The optimism and joy that comes from that sort of turnaround can’t be matched by consistent success. Very easy to get entitled

22-23 is definitely the best season in my memory too, even better than Keegan's early seasons tbh. The momentum we had, the way we dominated games, the energy we played with, and that feeling of "we're actually fucking back" after being a shell of a club for so long was unreal. With the added sense that we were going places as a club with the takeover still fresh, it just felt magic and like the start of an era.

Cant be replicated unless we fail to qualify for Europe, maybe next season we get it again!

We didn’t do it last season and we had no Europe. For whatever reason, we have come away from it, yet we haven’t moved to a different style.

I remember my fatha and his mates that we go to matches with telling me after we stuffed Villa 4-0 at SJP that season to make the most of days of like that, as it won't be long before that the becomes the expected norm. Alas the difference in us between for example 93-94 and the following years under Keegan or 03-04 contrasted with the two prior seasons under Robson. Similar with the second half of 21-22 tbh. That 18 month period is my favourite ever time following us.

However it's vital to keep making strives forward and evolving. Despite 23-24's PL record of goalscoring or last season's cup win I still think 22-23 is our best side under Howe.

Yeah, it felt extra good being the massive underdogs who hadn't been in CL for 20 years. It's also still our best league season under Howe. 5 points better than last season, and +14 better GD. We smashed several teams that season, even away from home.
